Second wave has been accepted. We now have most of the staff we need for the event, but we still need extra judges for Saturday, and standby judges for other days.

We are planning to do our first wave of accepting applications (in addition to the L3 applications we have already accepted) this Sunday. This will include most of the judges we'll need for Thursday and Friday, so if you are hoping to work those days, please get your application in as soon as possible!

On Sunday we'll also try to give you an estimate of how many judges we'll still need. The next wave will be in February.

One of the things 2015 will surely bring is GP Utrecht! This promises to be the biggest GP in European history and we hope that you’re willing to write that piece of history with us! We are looking for quite a few judges to staff this event. Below are details on the judge call.

Shifts

We’re looking for judges to work on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, needing most of you on Saturday. The venue will be open from quite early (around 8:00) until quite late (somewhere after midnight) each day. Additionally, at midnight on the night of Thursday-Friday, we will launch our first few Last Chance Trials that will go even later.

As such, if you would like to be on staff, your availability needs to fulfill these three criteria:

• You’re able to judge one shift on Saturday, or you can be on standby for Saturday (which means you promise to judge if needed, but will play otherwise)
• You judge between zero and three shifts on any combination of the other three days, based on your availability and our needs; this could include being standby on some days
• You either judge only day shifts or only evening/night shifts

Judges working the evening/night shifts will receive 12 additional boosters of Russian product for each day worked. On top of the compensation outlined below, we will be offering free side events based on the number of days you are working or on standby, so that you may enjoy playing Magic when not on duty! For each day you either work or are on standby, we’re offering an event voucher; if you’re standby on Saturday, you’ll get two event vouchers.

Important: we’ll need to know which days you’ll be available (in addition to Saturday) and what the minimum and maximum number of days is you’re willing to work if selected to judge. We also need to know whether you’re available for the evening/night shifts or would prefer day shifts only.

Roles

Below are the roles we’re looking to fill and what we’re offering.

Level 1: We’re looking for a few Level 1 judges at this event that are willing to gain experience at large events. We’d love you to be (almost) ready to test for L2 if you apply for this position, and willing to do so during the weekend. Please consult your RC if you feel you’re up for this!

If working, you’ll receive:

• 1.5 booster boxes of any Khans of Tarkir block set per day (English product)

• 0.5 booster box of Modern Masters 2015 Edition per day (English product)

• 50€ cash stipend for food/hotel costs per day

• Tournamentcenter.eu backpack (if you don’t already have one), plus goodies including the exclusive GP Utrecht Judge playmat (and the infinite bragging rights that come with it)

• An event voucher per day (details below).

Level 2: Level 2 judges will make up the majority of the staff. You’ll be called upon for floor judging main and side events, team leading or head judging at side events, and some administrative / logistical duties such as prize distribution, crowd control, etc.

You’ll receive:

• 3 booster boxes of any Khans of Tarkir block set per day (English product)

• 0.5 booster box of Modern Masters 2015 Edition per day (English product)

• 50€ cash stipend for food/hotel costs per day

• Tournamentcenter.eu backpack (if you don’t already have one), plus goodies including the exclusive GP Utrecht Judge playmat (and the infinite bragging rights that come with it)

• An event voucher per day (details below).

Level 3: Level 3 judges will be tasked with important logistical tasks and are expected to be prepared to take on leadership roles during the event. Typically, they’ll team lead at main event or will head judge larger side events. They’ll also take on leading roles in other duties.

As L3, you’ll receive:

• 3 booster boxes of any Khans of Tarkir block set per day (English product)

• 1 booster box of any Khans of Tarkir block set per day (Russian or English product)

• 1 booster box of Modern Masters 2015 Edition per day (English product)

• 150€ cash stipend for food/hotel costs per day

• Tournamentcenter.eu backpack (if you don’t already have one), plus goodies including the exclusive GP Utrecht Judge playmat (and the infinite bragging rights that come with it)

• An event voucher per day (details below).

Specialist – Level 2+ judges and scorekeepers who will be contracted for very specific duties during the tournament, such as managing night shift 8-player events or scorekeeping side events. While you may apply for this position in your cover letter, stating where you feel you’ll be useful, we will at first be calling upon specific people with an offer. As a specialist, you’ll receive a personalized offer.

Standby – For each day, we need a number of standby judges; you could be working on some days and standby on others, or only on standby. We’ll expect you to be on site and able to work on each day you’re confirmed as standby. If you end up working that day, you’ll receive the normal compensation for your level; if you end up not working, you’ll get an event voucher (two on Saturday).

Notes on compensation

Event vouchers – As mentioned above, you’ll get some event vouchers: one for each day you work or are standby; an extra one if you’re standby on Saturday. Each voucher is worth 15€ of events; you can pay with them for any event(s) you play on any of the four days (but only for yourself; you can’t sell them). You’ll obviously get all of your vouchers as soon as you get there.

Product shipping – We understand that taking home a significant amount of boxes may not be easy, so we’re happy to tell you that we’ll be shipping any boxes in excess of six. We can ship this to any address in Europe for you. If you need intercontinental shipping, ask us and we’ll work something out.

Why do we ask you to take home six boxes yourself? We feel that that’s an amount you should be able to take home more or less comfortably, and if everyone puts in this small effort, we’ll be able to allocate a portion of the budget to compensation that would otherwise go to shipping needlessly! If taking home six boxes is a big issue, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

Hotel – Unfortunately, we cannot book hotel rooms for all the judges. We are however currently negotiating hotel room deals with several hotels in Utrecht so that players and judges can enjoy a discount on regular rates. All judges are, in return, receiving a higher daily cash stipend than usual to cover (part of) the hotel and meal costs.

Application window

The application window for GP Utrecht will be opened until three weeks before the event, but we’ll do several rounds of selections in the meantime. In fact, chances are that you may get accepted quite fast after applying! The main wave of selections will be done by the end of March, and we'll also publish a schedule with shifts around that time. 

Contract

Like usual, we'll ask you to sign a contract with tournamentcenter.eu. A draft will be posted very soon in the files section.
