Event Information
Welcome to Grand Prix: Providence 2015!
On behalf of TJ Collectibles and Wizards of the Coast, welcome to the staff application page for Grand Prix: Providence. We are looking for friendly, knowledgeable, professional individuals with a goal of providing exceptional guest service through the entire Grand Prix experience. If this sounds like you, then we welcome you to apply within and be a part of the amazing team that will make Providence a memorable and Magical weekend.
Expectations
All staff members are expected to perform in a professional manner that reflects positively on the rest of the event staff, the Tournament Organizer, Wizards of the Coast and the Judge Program. We desire team members that diligently seek to promote a fun, exciting environment for everyone to enjoy. This also includes avoiding activities that could in any way negatively affect a staff member’s performance.
All staff members are expected to dress professionally throughout the weekend. Staff members who do not meet this expectation will be sent to remedy the situation immediately or will be removed without compensation. Judges are expected to wear the Magic Judge shirt, dark undershirt, black belt, black pants or skirt (tactical pants are acceptable, jeans are highly discouraged), black socks, and black shoes. Staff members in a judging role will adhere to the above dress guidelines, donning the TJ Collectibles red staff shirt instead of the Magic judge shirt while working in a non-judging role. Staff shirts will be provided as needed.
Judges are expected to report on-time, prepared to give best effort toward the event weekend at whatever times they are scheduled during the weekend. TJ Collectibles will assign shifts for Friday, while the Head Judge will assign shifts in coordination with TJ Collectibles for Saturday and Sunday. Judges are expected to be available on Sunday until at least 6:00pm and we will be prioritizing individuals who are more flexible with schedule and/or can stay later on Sunday.
There will also be additional product compensation provided to individuals willing to take on essential non-judging roles to contribute to our event weekend’s complete success.
Acceptance Procedures
We will be accepting judges on a rolling basis, with most judges receiving Saturday and Sunday staffing. There will be a limited number of judges needed for the Friday shift.
If you absolutely need to be scheduled all three days to be on staff for this event, please note that in your application.
Compensation
A Message from Tom Shea:
In this ever-changing world, we here at TJ Collectibles are constantly working to make adjustments to our compensation levels to properly accommodate staffing needs and levels. We have found that in some circumstances, judges who are traveling to events need more support than local judges. With that in mind, we are posting the solicitation for judges for Grand Prix Providence with the following stipulations:
All Level 3+ should contact me directly to discuss compensation.
Any Level 2 judges who may need some travel sponsorship to make the event feasible should also contact me directly as well. We do not want anyone to work our event that can’t have the event be as profitable and worthwhile for them. At the same time, things are changing on our end as well. We need everyone to see the Grand Prix event as a positive experience - that means players, judges and event staff alike.
These are interesting times for all of us. There will be an effort to reward judges and staffers with a gift. Please share your ideas with me. Did you like the judge polo we did for Grand Prix Cleveland? Do you prefer play mats? Would you like a messenger bag? We are open to any of these options and more. Please contact me via email at tjcollect@aol.com with any feedback you may have, and I will do my best to accommodate your needs.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support and dedication to both the growth of this game and to our events.
Sincerely,
Tom Shea

All judges will be receiving a Grand Prix: Providence playmat and a special Judge gift that will be announced soon! Additionally, judges will also receive booster displays and monetary compensation based on level per day. This will be in the form of cash and check. $20 per day will be paid in cash, with the remaining amount per day paid in the form of a check. There is a limited amount of travel sponsorship available.
Compensation based on level is as follows:
Level 1 judges will receive $30.00 via check, $20 cash, and 1 booster display per day worked.
Level 2 judges will receive $130.00 via check, $20 cash, and 1 booster display per day worked.
Level 3+ judges will receive $230.00 via check, $20 cash, and 2 booster displays per day worked. L3+ judges should contact us to discuss additional travel compensation at tom@tjcollect.com.
Level 2+ Judges are eligible to apply for Travel Sponsorship.
For example, a Level 2 judge working on Saturday/Sunday would receive:
1 - GP: Providence Playmat
1 – Judge Gift
2 - Booster displays of Dragons of Tarkir
$260 check and $40 cash
