Welcome:
On behalf of Game Keeper Online & Spellkeeper Events, I'd like to thank you for your interest in judging at Grand Prix Québec City.
Applications for Grand Prix Québec City close on September 20th with final acceptances being posted by September 27th. This event will have rolling acceptances to help allow for better travel planning for our Judges. If you need special consideration or have unique circumstances that don't fit into this time frame please reach out to us to discuss.
The Head Judge for Grand Prix Québec City is Daniel Kitachewsky.
Expectations:
Judging is fun, but it’s also a lot of work. While working, judges may be expected to help with the following, and more:
- Providing great customer service
- Taking Judge calls
- Event registration
- Crowd control
- Venue setup and teardown
(tables, chairs, table cloths, pairings boards, table numbers, etc)
- Picking up garbage
- Pushing in chairs
- Prize distribution
- Attending to artists
- Deck registration for VIPs
- Working at the Info Booth or Prize Wall
- Other event needs assigned by your team leader or staff member
Dress code:
All Judge and Staff members are expected to dress professionally throughout the weekend.
Judges are expected to wear the button down Magic Judges shirt, black pants with a black belt, black socks and shoes.
Staff members in non-judging roles will wear a GameKeeper staff shirt, black pants with a black belt, black socks and shoes.
Remember that you are representing the judge program, the tournament organizer, and most importantly yourself. Please put your best foot forward with your uniform and personal hygiene.
Sponsorship Options:
Due to the varying needs of any event of this scope Judges can apply a Volunteer or on Standby. Volunteer Judges will be scheduled in advance of the event. Standby Judges can be activated at any point up to and including at the event itself. If you have any questions about this please ask.
Compensation:
Starting with Grand Prix Québec City Spellkeeper Events will require an invoice from each staff member reflecting the services provided by that staff member. These invoices will be created on your behalf and reviewed when receiving final compensation.
Booster Pack compensation for Grand Prix Québec City will be one box per day per level of Battle for Zendikar. If you prefer a different Standard legal set please note that in your application and we will try to accommodate.
Standby Judges will receive 12 packs per day they were assigned as Standby.
In addition to Booster Pack compensation all activated Judges will receive a meals and travel stipend based on your level or role. This stipend will be paid by cheque or GameKeeperOnline.com store credit with a 25% bonus.

Level 2: 2 Boxes
Level 3: 3 Boxes
Level 4: 4 Boxes
Level 5: 5 Boxes
Meal and Travel stipend per day worked.
Level 1: $20
Level 2: $100
Level 3: $200
Level 4: $300
Level 5: $400
Note that $20 of your daily stipend will be in cash at the event to help with meals. The remaining amount will be in a cheque at the conclusion of your final shift.
Level 3+ Judges who floor judged at Grand Prix Montreal and floor judge at least two days of Grand Prix Québec City will also receive a 350$ bonus for their continued support of Game Keeper Events.

Event Leader Positions:
Event Leader positions are expected to be filled by some of the most experienced members of our Judge Staff. These positions are responsible for managing and coordinating Side Event operations and should not be confused with main event team lead positions. These shifts may be slightly longer than a normal shift. Any Judge Level 2 or higher can request this position. Please note in your cover letter if you are interested in these positions and detail why you should be an Event Leader. Also note that these positions are limited and we may not be able to accommodate all qualified Judges.
Level 2 Judges selected for Event Leader positions will receive an additional Booster Box and $50 per day.
Level 3 Judges selected for Event Leader positions will receive an additional $100 per day.
Shifts & Schedules:
Judges may apply for one, two, or three days on staff. All applications should include Saturday.
Shifts at Grand Prix Quebec City are planned for no longer than 12 hours and will include at least a one hour meal period. You can choose to work Morning, Day, Evening or a Split Shift.
Split Shift Judges will be able to play in free 8-player on-demand events during their off hours on any day they work a split shift. The break will be at least 4 hours between either half of your shift. (ie 8am-1pm & 6pm-11pm)
Morning shifts will start between 7 and 9am for up to 12 hours.
Mid shifts will start between 10 and 11am for up to 12 hours
Evening Shifts will start between Noon and 1pm for up to 12 hours
Split Shifts will start between 8 and 9am and the second half will start between 5 and 6pm.
The more flexible you are the more likely we will be able to staff you at Grand Prix Québec City.
Goodies:
Each Judge and staff member is guaranteed to receive one Grand Prix Québec City Playmat.
Accommodations:
Hotel accommodations aren't included in Judge compensation plans for Grand Prix Québec City.
A discounted rate of 130$ has been negotiated for staff at the nearby Hilton Québec.
To secure this rate email Mauro directly (magic2magic@sympatico.ca) with your name, arrival date, departure date, room type (one bed or two), roommate names, and how you would like to pay for the room.
Payment of the room can be offset by a portion of you, and your roommates, travel stipend(s) or directly via the hotel.
Staff and Scorekepeer Positions:
We are also looking for event staff and scorekeepers for Grand Prix Quebec City. If you are qualified for these roles and are interested in working on stage please note that in your application as well as emailing us directly. These positions can be for the full weekend or for as little as one day if you prefer to floor judge other days. Compensation will be discussed individually but will be commensurate with experience and Judge Level.
