GP Kansas City 2013

Welcome - (as some of how staff will be compensated is different from other events, it is highly recommended that you read through the following information in its entirety.)

Applications for judge staff for GP Kansas City the weekend of July 5th through 7th are now open.  This event will be at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kansas.

The main event is Modern and the head judge will be Jeff Morrow.

Application dates / process

Applications are open now and will close on May 12th.  Staffing will be announced as soon as we can after the application window has closed.

Compensation

An L1 gets $70 a day (most will work just two days), an L2 will get $240 for the weekend and an L3 will get $270 for the weekend.  Judges will have to complete appropriate tax forms on site before receiving payment.  This applies to all judges that are accepted to work this event.  This compensation is expected to cover  your expenses for the event including hotel and per diems.

---Product:

All L1 and L2 judges will receive 1 box of product for each day worked.  All L3+ judges will receive 1 1/2 boxes of product for each day worked.

---Foils

All certified judges working at least two days will receive packets of judge foils equal to their certification level.

Hotels

There is no hotel sponsorship for this event.  Judges are expected to make their own arrangements regarding where they stay.  There is currently a hotel bock with the Starwood hotel which is attached to the venue.  The rate per night is $94.  You can make reservations in that block here:

There are other hotels in the area as well, most of which are cheaper.  When last checked, the nearby Hilton Garden Inn had rates of 70-80 per night.

Once staff has been selected it is recommended that you make contact with other judges to get hotel rooms.  We can start a thread in the forum for that purpose.

Transportation

This venue is not exactly close to the nearest airport.  As with hotels it is suggested that you make arrangements with other judges to share cabs to the venue.

Super Shuttle does run a shuttle service from the airport to areas around the Kansas City area.  The round trip rate from the Kansas City airport to the venue is $49.  You can either arrange for that at the airport or before the trip online here:

Finally, if you can get a group of four or more judges together it may be beneficial to rent a car from the airport.

We are also looking at other ways of getting judges from the airport to the venue.  If anything come up, I will share that info.

Certification testing

We will be offering L1 and L2 certification.  If you are an L1 and interested in testing for L2 at this event make sure to include the following information in your application:

-How long you have been a L1 judge?

-Who tested you and at what event?

-What events you have worked? (It does not need to be complete, just a few for examples)

-Some other judges you have worked with.

If you know of anyone that is L0 and interested in testing for L1 at this GP, please have them email me at judge@legionevents.com.  We will still accept ‘walk ups’ but getting information from interested judge candidates beforehand would be useful.

-Which days you are available to work.  (Most judges will be expected to work Saturday and Sunday, we will need a few for the Grinders that start on Friday)
