Early applications will be reviewed before this deadline and may be accepted sooner. If you need to know sooner than the final deadline to arrange for travel or have other concerns with this process please feel comfortable asking us.
The Head Judge for Grand Prix Vancouver is Jared Sylva.
Expectations:
Judging is fun, but it’s also a lot of work. While working, judges may be expected to help with the following, and more:
- Providing great customer service
- Taking Judge calls
- Event registration
- Crowd control
- Venue setup and teardown
(tables, chairs, table cloths, pairings boards, table numbers, etc)
- Picking up garbage
- Pushing in chairs
- Prize distribution
- Attending to artists
- Deck registration for VIPs
- Working at the Info Booth or Prize Wall
- Other event needs assigned by your team leader or staff member
Dress code:
All Judge and Staff members are expected to dress professionally throughout the weekend.
Judges are expected to wear the button down Magic Judges shirt, black pants with a black belt, black socks and shoes.
Staff members in non-judging roles will wear a GameKeeper staff shirt, black pants with a black belt, black socks and shoes.
Remember that you are representing the judge program, the tournament organizer, and most importantly yourself. Please put your best foot forward with your uniform and personal hygiene.
Sponsorship Options:
Due to the varying needs of any event of this scope Judges can apply a Volunteer or on Standby. Volunteer Judges will be scheduled in advance of the event. Standby Judges can be activated at any point up to and including at the event itself. If you have any questions about this please ask.
Compensation:
Spellkeeper Events will require an invoice from each staff member reflecting the services provided by that staff member. These invoices will be created on your behalf and reviewed when receiving final compensation.
Booster Pack compensation for Grand Prix Vancouver will be from Oath of the Gatewatch. If you prefer a different Standard legal set please note that in your application and we will try to accommodate.
Standby Judges that aren't activated to Floor Judge role will receive 12 Booster Packs per day scheduled.
Level 1 Judges will receive $100 and 1 Booster Box per day worked.
Level 2 Judges will receive $200 and 1 Booster Box per day worked.
Level 3+ Judges will receive $300 and 1 Booster Box per day worked.
$20 of your daily stipend will be in cash to help with meals.
The remaining amount will be paid via cheque at the end of your final shift.
If you prefer you may receive store credit in lieu of cash with a 25% bonus.
Please ensure your Judge level is current in Judge Apps when applying for this event as your selection and subsequently compensation will be based on this level. If your level should change between your application submission and the start of the event we can't guarentee a change in compensation.
Travel Sponsorship:
If your specific travel needs exceed what you feel is reasonable based on the above compensation we want to try to help you attend our event. We have a limited number of Travel Sponsorship Units available (each at $50) to help offset your travel costs from afar. When you apply please let us know how many, if any, Travel Sponsorship Units you will need to join us at Grand Prix Vancouver.
If you have questions or concerns you should feel free to reach out to us to discuss these issues with Mauro at magic2magic@sympatico.ca
