PPTQ Judge Handbook

Hello Judges,

As you already aware, we have a new competitive event at shop level – PPTQ. This event required a HJ with L2. Originally, Wearn Chong (SEA RC) ask volunteers to prepare a brief document in order to help those Judge Manager and judges who will involve in PPTQ and ensure that the PPTQ event will run properly during SEA Judge Seminar at Phuket recently.

Then, I and Alex Kuan (Khang Jong Kuan), we prepared this document >> https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/64603558/PPTQ%20Handbook%20v0.7.pdf

I hope it useful :D

If anyone see anything incorrect or have any suggestions please feel free to contact me or Alex by both reply in this thread or send email to me.

Smith

edit: the current version was updated about English grammar and refer to WPN document about the ratio of judges to players.

update
9 Mar 2015: Update to v0.7 - Thanks to Alex for update and a lot of useful suggestion from Aruna :D

Thank you very much for this document!

I would like to offer one substantial correction: players who finish 5-8 in an RPTQ with more than 128 players receive an invitation to the Pro Tour only. They do not get invited to next season's RTPQs.

Thank you for your feedback. I just recheck this article and it was still
there.

you may scroll down until “Regional PTQs Summary” in the last bullet.

I will double check with my WPN Rep tomorrow.

The PEIP is the governing reference here, although it's possible it does not say what it should.

Can we get this document moved to a more permanent home than a dropbox.

Like the Wiki or blog or something? That way people can find it and we can promote it appropriately.

Hi Bryan,

I've been contacted by Adam Hubble, the current manager of judge wiki. I'll work with him to create a wiki for this handbook in nearly future.

Everyone, please submit any feedback and suggestion to me. I will update it while working on with the judge wiki. :D

This is a fantastic article!

I would suggest having a native English speaker edit the document a little, as I can spot a few grammar mistakes here and there.

I would be more than willing to help edit the document to help improve the English. But don't worry - all of the errors are either in flow or grammar, and the document is still entirely readable and understandable as it is.

Edit: Forgot to say, thank you so much for creating this document! It will be a great help for many future Head Judges, especially those in less-developed regions!

I'd like to express my thanks as well. This will be a great help for a lot of judges, hopefully me included, when the PPTQs start up next year. :)

This document is extremely helpful.

My suggestion would be to add a sentence in the opening announcement for judges to mention the “new” play/draw rule, which is mandatory for PPTQs (though players may not be aware).

Thank you very much everyone for the feedback. I'm really happy that this
document is useful.

Hi Alan Peng,

I knew that English grammar is one of my area to improvement. :( I will
contact Peter Richmond to help me on this. I will turn on track change in
order to learn my mistake (which I guess a lot), too. :D

Hi Peter Richmond,

I will contact you directly about helping me clean the errors of the
document. I hope you won't mind.

Hi Matt Braddock

Thank you for your feedback. I will add the following paragraph behind the
3d) in opening announcement section.

*Remind players to acknowledge the new Play/Draw rule. (also explain them
if this rule is new to players in that event.)*

As for reference, there is an explanation about new Play/Draw rule in PPTQ
fact sheet which I also included in the document – in the extra section of
the document. (fourth and fifth bullet of page 4).

- Standings after the Swiss rounds will be used to determine final order
in the standings for losing players in the quarterfinal and semifinal
playoff rounds.
- For the first game of each match in the playoff, the player that
finished higher in the Swiss rounds chooses either to play first or to play
second. For subsequent games in each playoff match, the usual Play/Draw
rule applies (loser of the previous game decides whether to play first in
the next game).
