I have a questions regarding this card and it's interaction with other effects. Now suppose a colorless creature enters the battlefield that has p/t at 3/3. The mimic's ability triggers. Now before the trigger resolves I cast an instant that gives the colorless creature +3/+3 making it a 6/6. According to the rulings on this card you would use the p/t of the creature as it resolves. However since setting base p/t is applied in layer 7b and p/t modifying is applied in layers 7c, why would the +3/+3 be applied to the mimic's p/t? Why wouldn't it just be a 3/3?

Thanks.

We're setting the base power and toughness of the Mimic. But the Mimic doesn't care what the base power and toughness of the other creature are - it cares what its power and toughness are. That means we need to take everything that modifies that creature's power and toughness into account - we don't just stop halfway through the layer system. We take all modifiers into account, and we set the Mimic's base power and toughness to those numbers. Since the other creature (including all power and toughness modifiers) is a 6/6, we set the Mimic's base power and toughness at 6/6.
