Certification (auto-updating)

originally by Brian Schenck
As was announced in other forums Jan 7th, Certification auto-updating is restored.

I wanted to post a follow-up to Andy's previous post. In order to ensure that all promotions for Level 1 and Level 2 work properly, we've implemented a fix in the Judge Center. If you generate a Level 1 exam this moment via the Judge Center, it shows “Required: 101%”. This is obviously an impossible score to achieve. The required passing score is 70%, as documented in the Judge Wiki…

…and what this change did was invalidate the capability to promote someone without entering a review. Judge memberships were being updated just via a passing score, and that is not an ideal behavior. We want to stress the use of reviews, especially for the promotion of judges and communication of information. Whether basic information to integrate into the community, or making the new judge aware of various resources.

So, when you enter an advancement review for a candidate, make sure to do the following…

(1) Select the “Interview”-type review from the three options offered, noting the Exam ID# in that field, the candidate's score on the exam (again 70% or higher!), and that you select “1” from the provided drop down.
(2) In the “Subject Name” field, put in the candidate's DCI#. This ensures the review sends the proper information to the database where all memberships are maintained.
(3) Enter some comments regarding the candidate's strengths, weaknesses, and other notes. If you want to link them to the Magic Judge Apps forum, great. Or perhaps to the Judge Wiki. Even discuss some resources they could use to continue to improve as a judge.
(4) Press the “Preview” button and check over your work. You can correct any errors under the “Edit Review” expansion.
(5) Once you're satisfied with the review, press the “Submit” button. And that should auto-update the candidate's membership.

…and make sure to send an email or otherwise contact the candidate to let them know that you submitted the advancement review. Have them check it over in the Judge Center, just to make sure they've read it, and can ask any questions about the process.

To keep down any errors, please use the DCI#, and not names, when creating certification exams.

Please note that entering an interview review is still part of the process.

If you have any more questions about the certification process, the following Wiki article may be helpful…
