West Texas Area Mini-Conference 2018

Welcome!

We are excited to invite you to our Summer 2018 West Texas Area Judge Mini-Conference!  This conference will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Mad Hatter’s in Lubbock, Texas.  The location opens at 12pm that day, and the conference will wrap up by 5pm, depending on number of presentations.  Be sure to grab lunch before the event, but feel free to stay after for a judge dinner at a nearby location (to be determined).

Judge conferences are a great way for judges to come together, learn and share their judging experiences.  It is a great way to improve your judging skills and make new friends. The focus of this conference will be on sharing experiences and knowledge for certified judges and judge candidates to build both better judges and a better judging community.  Judges residing outside the West Texas area are welcome to attend or present.

We will only be able to accommodate a maximum of 20 judges for this event, so please plan on applying as early as possible.

Presentations

We are looking for a number of presenters focusing on L1 basic skills and growth.  Presentations should be about 30 - 45 minutes long, with open question time at the end, as necessary.  If you’re interested in being a presenter, please give a summary of your presentation topic in the cover letter portion of your application.  You do not need to be a Level 2 Judge to present or even an expert in a topic. You only need to be interested in a topic.

Thank you for your applications to be a presenter.  We have confirmed our presentation schedule now, so no new presentation summaries will be considered, but feel free to apply for attendance to the event!

Mad Hatter’s House of Games is located at 1507 Texas Ave, Lubbock, TX 79401. Driving South on I-27: Take Exit 3 (US-62), turn right on 19th St, then turn right at the light on Texas Ave. Hatter's will be on the right side of the road, on the corner of 16th St and Texas Ave. Driving North on I-27: Take Exit 3 (US-62), turn left on 19th St, then turn right at the light on Texas Ave. Hatter's will be on the right side of the road, on the corner of 16th St and Texas Ave.

Testing

If you are interested in testing for L1 (or L2) at this conference, please indicate this in your application. Testing will only be offered to judges who submit evidence of completed testing prerequisites at least 2 weeks prior to the event date. Foil Support

Wizards of the Coast and the Judge Program can reward certified judges at this conference with a selection of judge foils, depending on how many presentations are offered and attended.  The number of foils given to each attendee will be based on the number of presentations attended, and the completion of presentation feedback surveys. Only those registered and certified by June 22nd will be eligible for foil support.  There are no exceptions to this policy.
