Sioux Falls Judge Conference October 2018

Hello, Judges!

On behalf of USA North, I'm pleased to announce that Sioux Falls is hosting another judge conference!  This time we are doing something new for our region!

We will be simulating a Comp REL Modern Format tournament with the help of multiple volunteers acting as players, Team Leads, and a Head Judge. Over the course of the day, we will go through several aspects of a Comp REL event.

Participants will be rotating through roles as the various teams. They will learn how to prepare for a Comp REL tournament, how to make announcements, how to handle deck checks with actual decks to check, how to handle the floor, and lots of feedback on investigations and rulings.

We will need judges to act as players, judges to act as team leads/the HJ, and judges to act as judges.

As a participant, please bring a modern legal deck with deck list if you are able.  Quality of the deck will not be important, but if you put together something fun, you'll enjoy acting as a player a bit more than if you brought a deck with nothing going on. 

Be prepared to encounter something you haven't thought of before as there will also be scenarios built in to explore what happens when things go wrong, and we REALLY need a judge.  There will be plenty of time for us to go over each issue as a group that we encounter and discuss how to handle each scenario that comes up.

As a sign of appreciation, Wizards of the Coast allows us to offer attendees a selection of different prizes including foils.  The exact packet and prize pool is not known at this time, but will include foils and for non-certified judge attendees other items will be available. The foils are available if you meet the following criteria:

    -Register for the conference by applying to this JudgeApps event
    -Be a certified (Level 1 or higher) Judge with a correct level in JudgeApps at the time you apply, or if you certify after applying, email me at thor.bardon@gmail.com with your updated level.

Schedule:

Team Leads / TO - 9:30am call time

Players / Judges - 10:00 call time

We'll have coffee and some form of baked goods in the morning.

There will be 3 rounds in the mock tournament followed by lunch, Subway, Little Cesars, Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant, and Burger King are all within 50ft of the front door.  After lunch, we will all go through our experiences in the mock tournament as a group and discuss what solutions or problems we found with each one. 

Testing:
