Event Information
The USA Southwest Region's Area Captains program has been restructured and now includes an application process.
There will be 3 levels of management. First level will be the RC and their Second/XO. Just below that will be Area Coordinators and Specialty Coordinators. The Specialty Coordinators will hold specific roles: Local Tournament, Community Events, Advancement, and Communications. There will also be an Administrative Coordinator. Below Area Coordinators will be Area Leads, which report to an assigned Area Coordinator and an assigned Speciality Coordinator.
Coordinator Level Roles
- Local Tournament Coordinator: Coordinates a team of area leads that help make sure all local judges are aware of Competitive judging opportunities in their area.
- Community Events Coordinator: Coordinates a team of area leads that organize Judge meetups, conferences, and other events that may come up.
- Advancement Coordinator: Coordinates a team of area leads that help run judge classes for L1s and L2s and also keeps up with people interested in advancing
- Communications Coordinator: Coordinates a team of area leads that work on the blog, updates the Judge map, and leads discussions on social media. They interact with all aspects of our online presence.
- Administrative Coordinator: Coordinates all the report-outs for leadership and is responsible for recording meeting minutes.
For a full description of all of the roles, please refer to this doc: http://bit.ly/SWUSA_Roles
Lead Level Roles
Area Leads: There will be a lead for each quadrant of the region that specializes in one of the areas listed above (except Administrative). For example, SoCal will have a Local Tournament lead, Advancement lead, Community Events lead, and Communications lead. These leads will report directly to the Specialty Coordinator and Area Coordinator for their area.
This application is the start of the process for Coordinator Level Roles only. Area Lead roles will be done through a separate application after Coordinators are selected.
The Application Process
The Coordinator application will be conducted in two stages:
Stage 1 (Nov 13 - 20th): Start with this page. When you click on the apply link below, you will be directed to a Google Form to fill out with a cover letter, 2 questions and 2 references. The application and Google Form will close on November 20th at 11:59pm PT. You must complete the application both here and on the Google Form for your application to be considered.
A Selection Committee of the RC, a Level 3 judge, a Level 2 judge, and one outgoing Coordinator will review the applications and select a group of finalists for each role. This list will be made public no later than November 20th.
Stage 2 (Nov 23 - Dec 1st): Each finalist wll be presented with a series of questions based on the role they are applying for, their experiences as a judge, and any community feedback that is collected after the announcement of finalists. This back-and-forth through a Google Doc will continue for up to one week or until the selection committee can come to a clear consensus.
If you have any questions about this process, the roles or the structure in general, please feel free to email Angela Chandler through JudgeApps.
In the event there is only one qualified candidate, this procedure may be expedited.
