Roles and Compensation

This year we will be structuring compensation based on role rather than level. All compensation amounts are in Canadian dollars.

Floor Lead

On each of Saturday and Sunday, there is one Floor Lead position available. The Floor Lead will be a senior/experienced judge who will assist the Head Judge in running the main (Comp REL) event on each day, as well as supervising the rest of the Floor Judges. He or she will be expected to be very competent in Comp REL rules and policy, so while all judges are welcome to apply for this position, it is expected that only L2+ judges will be selected.

Shifts available:

Saturday, March 23rd     9:30-19:00
Sunday, March 24th       9:30-19:00

Floor Lead compensation: $200 cash or $250 credit per day

Floor Judge

Floor Judges are responsible for taking calls from the floor, performing deck checks, and executing other necessary tasks as directed by the Floor Leads or Head Judge.

Shifts available:

Sunday, March 24th        09:30-19:00 **

**On Saturday and Sunday, multiple Floor Judges will be selected for each of the early shifts.

Floor Judge compensation: $150 cash or $200 credit per day

In addition to the above, one meal each day will be provided for each judge on staff during his or her one-hour break.

Travel Bonus

A bonus of $100 cash or $130 credit is available for judges travelling more than 150 km to Montreal, provided that you apply and are selected for a shift on at least two different days. See the eligibility map here (everyone from outside the red boundary is eligible).

Eligibility is based on primary residence, as indicated on a government-issued photo ID (Driver's license, Medicare card, Passport, etc.) If you are not sure whether you are eligible, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Notably, judges from Ottawa, Kingston, and Quebec City qualify for the bonus.

Invoices

Judges accepted on staff for this event will be expected to submit an invoice for their services to the Tournament Organiser, including their Social Insurance Number and date of birth for tax purposes. This applies regardless of whether you choose to take compensation in the form of cash or credit.

Applying

When submitting your application, please indicate all shifts for which you would like to be considered. You may apply for multiple shifts on the same day if you wish to be considered for each of them. If you have any preferences about which shifts you would like on each day, you may indicate this in your cover letter, but please note that these preferences may not be able to be accommodated. If you absolutely do not want to judge a given shift, please do not indicate that you are applying for it.

You may apply for both a Floor Lead and a Floor Judge position on the same day if you still wish to be considered for Floor Judge even if not selected for a Lead position.

L1 judges applying to this event should be sure to describe in detail their level of experience with Comp REL rules and policy in their cover letters, as well as giving the name of their L2+ mentor judge.

Applications are open until March 8th!

Staff will be announced no later than March 15th
