Columbia, MO Mini-Conference

Welcome to the application for the first Central Region mini-conference of 2019!  This conference will be hosted by Magelings Games in Columbia, MO the day after the Star City Games Regionals event in the same city! This could present some fantastic opportunities to judge or play a big event, and then join other judges for discussion and learning. This conference is foil-supported.

The date of the conference is March 10, 2019. 

IMPORTANT NOTE: This conference is earlier than we have historically hosted conferences in this region. Due to the event weekend, and the lower latitude of Columbia, we've decided to schedule the event anyways. However in the case of extreme weather coinciding with the conference, the conference will be cancelled. 

The Central USA Region is continuing its successful programs of running a number of smaller conferences throughout the year.  This smaller conference model allows cities without a ton of judges to still have a local conference, expanding the reach of our educational efforts. Because our aim is to allow the most number of unique judges possible to attend a conference in 2019, judges are limited to receiving foils at two events during the year (not counting events at which a judge presents) and attendance priority to a given conference will likewise be given to judges who have attended fewer conferences. As this is the first conference of 2019, however, these details are moot!

In addition, to be eligible for foils, a judge must be certified by the application deadline. Uncertified judges are still welcome to apply and to attend. 

Tentative Schedule:

• Doors open: 10:30am
• Conference begins 11am
• 30 minute break between presentation slots 2 and 3

Presentations: As this conference follows a major competitive event, our presentations will center around improving the competitive REL experience for players as well as helping to show judges ways to increase their knowledge and skill level when it comes to working these events.

• Large Events (Chase Shank)- applications, planning, executing
• Into the IPG (Brandon Darby) - a review of the LCE, HCE, and GRV infractions
• Creating a Judge Box (Nat Graham) - a personalized practice / study aid for yourself and for mentorees
• Live-Action Investigations (Jason Lauborough) - live judge call scenarios
• Scorekeeper Bootcamp (Darren Horve) - will run as an optional side track concurrent with another presentation

This conference can accept 25 judges.

To be accepted, please write a cover letter, letting us know what you might like to get out of attendance.  Applications with no cover letter will be accepted at a lower priority. We will also perform rolling acceptances, so be sure to apply sooner than later!

Everyone who applies to the conference will be put as either "attendee" or "standby".  "Standby" means that, for one reason or another, you are not eligible for foils.  This is only used for tracking attendees' foil statuses - even if you are marked Standby you are welcome to attend and participate.

Testing for L1 will likely be available, testing for L2 may be arranged with sufficient notice. If you would like to test, make sure to mention it in your application, and be prepared to show us proof of your readiness when we follow up.  If you do not inform us beforehand, we are unlikely to test you at the conference.
