Event Information
Hello, judges!
On behalf of the Northeast Region, I'm pleased to announce that we are doing a Mock Tournament in the greater Philadelphia area!
We will be simulating a Competitive REL tournament with the help of multiple volunteers acting as players, Team Leads, and a HJ. Over the course of the day, we will go through each facet of a Comp REL event. This style of event serves as a training ground to learn various roles and to get lots of practice taking calls.
Judge participants will be rotating through roles as the various teams. They will learn how to prepare for a Comp REL tournament, how to make announcements, how to handle deck checks with actual decks to check, how to handle the floor, and lots of feedback on investigations and rulings. Judges participating as players will likely be assinged that role exclusively.
We will need judges to act as players, judges to act as team leads/the HJ, and judges to act as judges.
The event will be capped at 28 people. The actual format will be announced soon, but we expect it to be either Sealed or Standard.
Please note, preference will be given to L1's from NJ, Eastern PA, and Deleware for the roles of judges.
Uniform:
Those attending in a Judge Role are expected to dress in a black shirt (GP Judge shirt, Regional Judge Shirt, or a polo/button down shirt are recommended), black pants/skirt/kilt, and comfortable shoes/sneakers. You'll be on your feet and taking calls for the better part of 3-4 hours. Those attending as players should dress for the role.
Support:
As a sign of appreciation, Wizards of the Coast allows us to offer attendees a selection of promotional foil cards. The exact packet is not known at this time, but will include four promotional cards. These foils are available if you meet the following criteria:
-Register for the conference by applying to this JudgeApps event
-Be a certified (Level 1 or higher) Judge with a correct level in JudgeApps at the time you apply, or if you certify after applying, email me at wcstormcrow@comcast.net with your updated level
-NEW ADDITION 5/10/19: Issue flash feedback. Flash feeback cards will be provided. Players will need to issue a minimum of 2 flash feedback cards and judges will need to issue a minimum of 1 flash feedback card.
Schedule:
Team Leads/HJ - 11am call time
Players and Judges - 11:30am call time
We expect to start the mock tournament at noon and be done with the event by 4:30pm. We're looking at a local food option for an early dinner for those that would like to join us before heading home.
Location/Parking:
Top Deck Games - Location and Parking Notes
Please don't park in the lot, there are limited spots available. Consider parking on Cooper Street or West Alberston Avenue. Parking on Haddon Ave is available but is likely metered.
Testing:
Level 1 testing will be available, and Level 2 testing may be available. If you are interested in either, please email me ( wcstormcrow@comcast.net ) before May 22nd.
Application Letter:
Not required unless you wish to be considered for the role of a judge. All who wish to participate as a judge in the tournament should submit a letter of application. Please note in the letter the position you are most interested in applying for - judge, Team Lead, and/or Head Judge (you can request to be considered for more than one role).
