Event Information
A mock tournament (MT) is a judge conference where attendees are trained in the low-stakes heat of the moment at a "fake-tournament" designed to test their skills and knowledge of both the CR and IPG.
This mock tournament conference will be held on Saturday August 31st, 2019 at Pandemonium Games & Hobbies in Garden City, Michigan. We plan to host two traditional presentations before Round 1 of the mock tournament. Applications for this conference are open to all judges, and those working toward their L1 certification. However, this MT will primarily focus on advancing judge skills used at Competitive Rules Enforcement Level events.
If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions about the conference please contact the Conference Organizer Christopher Byrne at Chris@PandoGames.com.

Presenters & Testers
We are looking for L2 and L3 judges willing to coordinate L1 and L2 testing.
We are also looking for a couple of engaging presenters who will push the envelope and interact as well as educate. Positions are available for up to 2 traditional presentations. Topics can range from Investigation Techniques all the way to The Basics of Taking a Call.
If you are interested in presenting, please email Christopher Byrne at Chris@PandoGames.com as soon as possible. Your proposal should include:
- Seminar Topic
- Technological Needs (projector, AV, etc.)
- Information and materials about previous seminars you have presented (Power Point slides, links to recordings of any past presentations if available, etc.)
Previous experience is not a requirement to present. First time presenter applications are welcomed and encouraged!
The Great Lakes region records judge conference presentations and posts video and audio recordings online so that judges who could not be present physically can still benefit from them. If you are uncomfortable with photo, video, or audio recording of you being taken or shared in this way, please contact the conference organizer, conferences project lead, or regional coordinator to discuss what possible accommodations are available.
Attendance & Foils!
As a thank you to the judge program, Wizards of the Coast allows us to offer attendees a selection of promotional foil cards. To qualify to receive foils at the end of the event you must meet the following criteria:
- Register for the MT by applying to this JudgeApps event before the application deadline.
- Be a certified (Level 1 or higher) Judge with a appropriate level registered in JudgeApps at the time you apply.
- If you certify after applying, email us with your updated level.
- Take part in the whole event.
- Complete the feedback form that is made available at the close of the event.
- Be among the first 40 people to meet the above criteria.
Judge candidates and other uncertified individuals are welcome to attend this conference. Unfortunately, per judge program policy, judge foils are not available to individuals who are not certified judges at the start of the conference, including those who certify for L1 at the conference. Applications for this event will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. For these reasons we encourage you to apply as early as possible to ensure your spot! If you have been accepted, but later realize you will be unable to attend, please email us so that we may offer the slot to another judge.
Testing
We are happy to attempt to arrange judge certification testing for both L1 and L2 at this event. Please DO NOT wait until the day of the event to request certification testing. Instead please email the organizer at least one month in advance to allow sufficient time for testing to be arranged.
***L2 CANDIDATES*** : Please ensure all of your pre-test requirements (https://blogs.magicjudges.org/o/judge-levels/#level-2-judge) have been completed before emailing the organizer.
