DUTCH OPEN SERIES #3 (2019)
Thank you for your interest in judging the DutchOpenSeries. These tournaments offer a unique opportunity to judge one of the largest events in the Netherlands, encounter interesting situations, and to learn, teach and share experiences like at no other event! We are welcoming both seasoned judges and newer judges who want to hone their skills, but we do expect applicants to have some prior experience at Competitive Rules Enforcement Level. Head Judge roles are exclusively for very experienced L2+ judges.
We are accepting judges for Saturday, Sunday or both days, and we strive for a good mix of judges of various backgrounds. Because on Saturday we host the Bazaar of Magic MCQ, we are looking for a total of approximately 10-11 judges on Saturday and 7-8 judges on Sunday. In order to offer more judges an opportunity to judge, we also accept 1 or 2 judges as a standbye; if activated, you receive full compensation, and if not activated, you can play any event of your choice for free. Saturday the formats are Modern and Sealed, Sunday there are Legacy and Standard.
Judge shifts start Saturday at 9.15 AM and Sunday at 10.30 AM; shifts end when both events started their Top 8. Head Judge shifts end when there are fewer than 12 players left in total. Each day, one judge has a Late Shift which starts 2 hours after the other shifts and ends when all events have finished; this position is available exclusively for very experienced L2+ judges. For this edition we're also looking for a Scorekeeper, preferrably someone who is available both days. Scorekeeper shifts start Saturday at 8.45 AM and Sunday at 10.00 AM and end when the finals start; compensation for this role is the same as for Head Judges.
To accommodate judges from farther away, we have the option for a sponsored hotel room from Saturday until Sunday. If you judge one day and want to use this sponsordeal, you will receive no travel compensation; instead you will be sharing a room with a fellow judge or a DutchOpenSeries crew member. Rooms include single beds, complimentary breakfast and swimming pool access. If you want to share this room with your partner or a friend we can make that work, please specify this in your application. We will deduct €37,50 from your judge compensation if you use this option. If you judge both days, you can opt for either twice the travel compensation or once travel compensation and one sponsored hotelroom.
The compensation per day is:
- € 75,00 or 1 boosterbox of the most recent set (while supplies last)
- UltraPro provided playmat for each judge (maximum of 1 per weekend - while supplies last)
- Travel Compensation (maximum of € 25,00 per day) or a sponsored hotel room (shared with 1 other judge / crew member)
- Lunch and water / softdrinks / coffee / tea / snacks throughout the day
- Head Judges, Late Shift Judges and Scorekeeper also get dinner and receive an additional compensation of € 25,00
