Event Information
DUTCH OPEN SERIES #4 (2019)
Thank you for your interest in judging the DutchOpenSeries. These tournaments offer a unique opportunity to judge one of the largest events in the Netherlands, encounter interesting situations, and to learn, teach and share experiences like at no other event! We are welcoming both seasoned judges and newer judges who want to hone their skills, but we do expect applicants to have some prior experience at Competitive Rules Enforcement Level. Head Judge and Late Shift roles are exclusively for very experienced L2+ judges. Being a member of Judge Academy is not a prerequisite for being accepted to judge the DOS; we consider your Last Known Information about your Judge Program level to be valid until at least the end of 2020. Whether you're a member of Judge Academy or not does not affect your chances of being accepted.
We are accepting judges for Saturday, Sunday or both days, and we strive for a good mix of judges of various backgrounds. We are looking for a total of approximately 9-10 judges on Saturday and 7-8 judges on Sunday. In order to offer more judges an opportunity to judge, we also accept 1 or 2 judges as a standbye; if activated, you receive full compensation, and if not activated, you can play any event of your choice for free. Saturday the formats are Modern and Sealed, Sunday there are Legacy and Standard.
Judge shifts start Saturday at 9.15 AM and Sunday at 10.00 AM; shifts end when both events started their Top 8. Head Judge shifts end when there are fewer than 12 players left in total. Each day, one judge has a Late Shift which starts at 11.30 AM and ends when all events have finished; this position is available exclusively for very experienced L2+ judges. For this edition we're also looking for a Scorekeeper, preferrably someone who is available both days. Scorekeeper shifts start Saturday at 9.00 AM and Sunday at 9.15 AM and end when the finals start; compensation for this role is the same as for Head Judges.
Since the venue is in the centre of Utrecht hotels are pretty expensive. If you really want to stay the night (Saturday -> Sunday) please be advised that you need to sort out your own hotel reservation. We won't have any hotel deals for this edition unfortunately. The upside is that the venue is very easyly accessible by train, and since we start early, we can all go home early and sleep in our own beds.
The compensation per day is:
- € 75,00 paid through PayPal
- UltraPro provided playmat for each judge (maximum of 1 per weekend - while supplies last)
- Travel Compensation (maximum of € 25,00 per day, calculated as € 0,19 per km travelled)
- Lunch (form of 2 sandwiches) and water / softdrinks / coffee / tea / snacks throughout the day
- Head Judges, Late Shift Judges and Scorekeeper also get dinner and receive an additional compensation of € 25,00
