Star City Games is proud to announce the 2020 StarCityGames.com Keystone Program. This initiative will offer a limited number of Star City Games Keystone Sponsorships to Level 2 and Level 3 judges at each SCG Tour event in 2020. Star City Games recognizes how vital exceptional leadership and event management skills are to the success of SCG Tour events, and the Keystone Program is for judges who exemplify these skills. By providing additional travel sponsorships to attend SCG Tour events, the Keystone Program recognizes and rewards the judges who form the foundation of event success as the leaders both on and off the floor.

How to Apply for a Keystone Sponsorship

Only Level 2 and Level 3 judges may apply for the Keystone Program. Simply click on the "Apply Now!" link toward the top of the page and answer all of the questions in the Google application form.

The application window for the Keystone Program will close on Sunday, November 17th, 2019. Late applications will not be accepted.

Expectations

Judges at SCG Tour events are expected to prepare for the event by reviewing the Comprehensive Rules, Magic Tournament Rules, Infraction Procedure Guide, and Judging at Regular REL documents. These documents can be found at the Magic: The Gathering Document Center. Judges are expected to behave in a professional manner at all times. Judges are expected to arrive on time and in appropriate attire to begin judging at the start of their assigned shifts.

Judges at SCG Tour events will be provided a blue judge shirt, which is expected to be returned at the conclusion of the event. The Judge should arrive with black pants, black belt, and black, comfortable shoes. During breaks, or any other time that a judge is off duty, judges should remove or cover their judge shirt.

Compensation

  • Open Head Judge (L3 only) - $750/$900 (based on distance from event location)
  • Open Support Judge - $500
  • Classic Head Judge - $450 (L2) or $550 (L3)
  • Unified Deck Checks Lead (Sunday) - $400 (L2) or $500 (L3)

  • Keystone Floor Judge - $400 (L2) or $500 (L3)

Judges applying for Keystone roles must be available for all days of the event. Single-day staffing is not available, and compensation listed is for the entire weekend. For the Invitational Weekend, the Keystone offer will be prorated for three days.

All judges accepted for Keystone Sponsorship on the SCG Tour will be required to sign an agreement for their work at the individual events. Compensation will be in the form of a check, which will be provided at the end of your final shift of the weekend or mailed out after the event. International judges can receive their compensation in the form of a PayPal payment after the event. Judges will be required to fill out a valid W-9 (domestic) or W-8 BEN (international) US tax form in order to receive their compensation.

Hotel Sponsorship

Judges selected for the Keystone Program are eligible for hotel sponsorship of up to three nights per SCG Tour event (four for SCG Con), in a shared room with another judge in Keystone. You can answer the questions in the Google form to let us know of your needs.

Selection Process

Selection for the Keystone Program will be based on many factors, including, but not limited to:

  • Excellence in events operations
  • Exemplary performance in judge qualities
  • Previous performance at Star City Games events

Applications for Keystone close on Sunday, November 17th, 2019.
