Event Information
Introduction:
Eternal Weekend – North America will be run this year on October 9th through October 12th in Pittsburgh! Card Titan will once again take the reins on this awesome show, and we invite you to join us in a celebration of the most timeless formats in competitive Magic!
Please note that some items in this application are marked as TBD; we will fill in details as we get them.
The application window will close on August 24th, with selections being made within a week.
We will be taking applications for Admin, Scorekeeper, Judge, Judge Leads, and Appeals Judge positions, in any combination of weekend days.
Days of the Event:
Eternal Weekend North America will span 4 whole days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday), with Vintage Champs Swiss rounds taking place on Friday, and Legacy Champs Swiss rounds spanning Saturday and Sunday. The Vintage Top 8 will take place on Saturday morning and Legacy Top 8 will take place Sunday following the conclusion of the Legacy Swiss rounds.
Vintage and Legacy championship trials will take place on both Thursday and Friday, with Thursday being the day with the lightest staff requirements. Due to the length of the weekend, we will make available opportunities to apply for single-day positions (Friday or Saturday), two-day positions (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday), and three-day positions (Friday/Saturday/Sunday or Thursday/Friday/Saturday). A small number of four-day positions may also be considered.
When filling out the application, please select all combinations for which you are applying. For example, if you are able to work two or three days, select all those options that will work for you. However, if you can only make the event work if you are accepted for a minimum of three days, then please select only the Fri/Sat/Sun and/or Thur/Fri/Sat option.
Setup this year will occur on the Wednesday before the event. We will need a few able-bodied folks to assist - there will be no events on that day, so setup shift involves no judging. Similarly, while there will be minor tasks to close the hall on Sunday, tear-down will be happening on Monday after the event and we will need a couple assistants then as well.
Extended Shifts:
For Eternal Weekend, the judge leads will be expected to work a somewhat longer shift on any staffed day. The traditional extended shift option is therefore rolled into the judge lead position for this event.
Staff Schedule:
The full weekend schedule is TBD, but shifts will include a 1 hour break and at least one additional 30 min break. Tournament play begins at 9:00 AM sharp on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so the call time for these days is 8:00 AM local time. Call time for Thursday is TBD, but expected to be around 11:00 AM.
The expected shift duration, while subject to change, is currently:
- Judge – 10-12 Hours
- Judge Setup/Teardown – 8-10 hours
- Judge Lead – 12-14 Hours
- Head Judge – 12-14 Hours
- Scorekeeper – 12-14 Hours
- Admin – 12-14 Hours
Roles:
You may apply for multiple roles, and you may have multiple roles over the weekend. Note that the compensation rate listed below is for the days worked in that role, only.
Judges
If selected for a Judging role, you may be asked to perform duties in one or more of the following areas:
- Floor judge Competitive REL, Regular REL, or Command Zone Events
- Head judge a Scheduled Event
Compensation: $250/Day + Judge Gift
Setup and Teardown
Non-lead judge positions will be eligible for consideration for setup shift (occurring on Wednesday before the event) and/or teardown shifts (happening on Monday after the event).
Judges selected for these shifts will be scheduled for somewhat shorter total hours than a regular judge shift but it will be a more physical requirement. Note that judges can indicate availability for setup independently from availability from teardown and vice versa.
If selected for a setup or teardown role, you may be asked to perform the following duties:
- Unloading and loading of vehicles
- Setup and takedown of banners and signage
- Table clothing
- Other logistical activities
Compensation: $250/Day + Judge Gift
Judge Leads
As a Lead, you may be asked to perform duties in one or more of the following areas:
- Lead Scheduled Side Events
- Lead Trials
- Lead a Vintage Champs team
- Lead a Legacy Champs team
Compensation: $400/Lead Day + Judge Gift
Legacy or Vintage Champs Head Judge and Appeals Judge
This year, we are expecting the Champs events to be larger than even. As such, we will be bringing both Head Judges for the two events and also Appeals Judges for at least the Legacy event. Head Judges will have this role for all three days. Appeals Judges will have this role for the day they are filling that position and will have Lead role for the rest (if they choose).
Our Head Judges for this year are:
- Vintage Champs - Abe Corson
- Legacy Champs - Meg Baum
The Legacy or Vintage Champs head judge will be asked to perform duties in one or more of the following areas:
- Helping to select and finalize staff selections
- Creating a judge schedule
- Sending pre-event communication to the judge staff and answering questions
Note that this position will required at least three days of staffing: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Both Head and Appeals Judges will perform all or part of:
- Head judging Legacy or Vintage Champs and serving as the appeals judge for Vintage or Legacy Champs
Compensation: $450/Head Judge Day + Judge Gift
Admin
Admin roles are TBD, but may include helping with:
- Registration
- Prize Wall
- Product Preparation
- Security / Bag Checks
- Other Administrative Tasks
Compensation: $350/Day + Judge Gift
Scorekeepers
As a scorekeeper, you will be expected to bring practical, hands-on experience managing multiple events with a combination of Eventlink and Melee.
- Scorekeep Scheduled Events in Eventlink
- Scorekeep Legacy and Vintage champs in Melee
- Address Judge/Player issues and concerns
- Generate On-Demand events
Note that this position requires all four days of staffing.
Compensation: $400/Day + Judge Gift
Judge Gift:
Tradition holds that there will be playmats for this event and that they will be part of the judge gift for helping with the weekend.
Card Titan is also looking into other possibilities for Judge Gifts to be given in addition to the mats.
As expected at this point in the planning, all of this is TBD and will be updated as more information becomes available.
Pre-Event Communication:
Staff selections will be announced via Judge Apps. The Card Titan discord will be used to manage pre-event and ongoing communication from Card Titan staff, head judges, leads, etc. Therefore, once you are selected for this event, enrollment in the Card Titan discord using a personally-identifiable username will be required.
Attire:
Judges will be expected to wear dark color pants, a belt, and black and/or comfortable shoes. A generous range of shirts are acceptable, including legacy judge program judge blacks, Judge Academy polos and long-sleeves, current Judge Foundry shirts, or a plain black short or long-sleeved shirt. Card Titan asks that you appear presentable and professional, as you will be interacting with many Eternal Weekend attendees over the course of the weekend. Please note that Card Titan will not be providing shirts to judges, but these may be provided to Scorekeepers and Admins depending on size requirements and availability.
Documentation:
There is a change in how payment is being handled this year.
For this event, all staff will be paid via Bank Transfer. Please note that this means that compensation will be distributed shortly after the event – there will be no exceptions to this. Please plan accordingly. Staff will need to finalize their payment information 30 days prior to the event to ensure prompt payment.
Other Notes:
A hotel sponsorship in the form of a shared hotel room will be provided to the championship head judges and main event scorekeeper only. Please note that there is a hotel block for this event that will be made available to staff prior to its public availability.
To Apply to this event:
Please fill out the cover letter, making note of any specific requests, and answer the questions asked. Your cover letter is your opportunity to introduce yourself and explain what skills and talents you will bring to this event. Be sure to mention any relevant skills. For example if you are applying for the scorekeeper position, describing your experience with Eventlink and Melee will be helpful.
Staff Members
Note: As you are not on staff for this event, some users may be hidden from the staff list, in accordance with their privacy settings. You can always see the full staff list if you are either part of the staff yourself, or otherwise, after the event is over.
