Welcome to Grand Prix Baltimore!

Thank you for your interest in applying for GP Baltimore.  Please read all of the event details, because there have been a number of changes taking place to how Grand Prix Events are being staffed.  GP Baltimore will be held Friday through Sunday, December 12-14, 2014 at the Baltimore Convention Center.  The format for Grand Prix: Baltimore is Khans of Tarkir Sealed.

The application window is currently open, and we are accepting applications on a rolling basis, with two or three waves of acceptances throughout the process.  The window to apply will close on October 31st 2014, with finalized staffing decisions posted shortly thereafter.

• Support Judge - Sean Catanese, Level 4 from Seattle, Washington

Compensation

This is the first event of the 2015 Premier Play Year (Season 1) and will NOT include Judge Foils as compensation.  Please make sure you read the compensation carefully before applying.

Judges will receive the following:

• 1 Current Booster Box per level per day
• 1 Compensation Unit per level per day
• 1 GP playmat (total not per day).

Lodging and Travel

We are offering hotel sponsorship to a limited number of L3+ judges who are traveling from outside the area for this event.

• Thu - $99/night
• Fri-Sat - $199/night

Distance to venue: 0.3mi (about 6 minutes walking distance)

We recommend that you make reservations as early as possible.

Expectations

Judge selected for Grand Prix: Baltimore are expected to prepare for the event by reviewing appropriate documentation, including but not limited to the Comprehensive Rules, the Magic Tournament Rules, and the Infraction Procedure Guide.  This documentation is available at the Magic Judges Document Center.  Judges will be representing CardTitan.com and thus will be expected to behave in a professional manner at all times. 

Judges are expected to arrive on time for their assigned shifts.  The Head Judge will be arranging main even shifts for Saturday and Sunday.  If you anticipate being unable to arrive by 8:00 am any day or need to leave early on any day please indicate that in your application.

Judges are expected to maintain proper hygiene and dress in the standard Magic: Judge attire including the Official Magic: Judge shirt, black pants, black belt, black socks, and comfortable black shoes.  Please indicate in your application if you need a judge shirt or name badge.

Certification Testing

We will be offering a limited amount of L1 and L2 certification testing at this event.  If you are interested in testing at this even please make certain to indicate your interest in your application.  In addition if you are a L1 seeking L2 certification in your cover letter please indicate the following information: 

• How long have you been a certified judge?
• Who tested you and at what event?
• What events have you worked prior to this event?  (Be sure to include a few examples, you need not be exhaustive)
• Other judges whom you have worked with at these events.
• Your most recent L2 practice exam score (please include the exam ID and date)
• Additionally please include any other relevant information on the L2 requirements found on the Judge Wiki: http://wiki.magicjudges.org/en/w/Judge_Levels#Level_2_-_Area_Judge

If you know someone that is interested in testing for L1 at this event, please have them e-mail Nicola DiPasquale prior to the event.  We may still accept walk-ups for L1 testing; however, having information beforehand benefits both the event and the candidate.

Standby

If you apply as a Standby Judge for this event please note the following:

• All standby judges must be available for Saturday.  Standby judges must be L2+, thus we will not be accepting any L1 judges as standby.
• All judges who are accepted as standby and are not activated will receive free entry into the main event.
