Event Information

On behalf of ChannelFireball and Cascade Games, I want to thank you for your interest in working at Grand Prix San Jose 2015! The dates for this event are January 29 - Feburary 1, 2015. Please be sure to read the entire application carefully before applying. The application window will close December 7, 2014.


Expectations


This application covers all event roles, including judging, scorekeeping, and registration. If you are selected for staff, you may be asked to do any or all of the following:
  • Judge for part or all of a shift - including delivering rulings, answering judge calls, and participating in feedback
  • Work registration for part or all of a shift - including handling cash or paperwork, or managing a line
  • Scorekeep events for part or all of a shift - including live scorekeeping for side events or post-event entry
  • Assist with special features, such as the Prize Wall or VIP, for part or all of a shift - including awarding prizes, helping artists, or checking in players at the VIP lounge
You may answer some questions related to the above in the application. You may also be asked for further detail in forum communication. If you are selected for staff, please check the forum periodically for important news.

Tangible Benefits For You
All staff members will receive the following:

  • A level 3 that works Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will get

  • A level 2 who works Saturday and Sunday will get
    • 4 booster boxes
    • $320 cash or $400 ChannelFireball store credit

  • A level 1 who works Friday and Saturday will get
    • 2 booster boxes
    • $160 cash or $200 ChannelFireball store credit
    • 1 Grand Prix playmat
    • 1 Special Gift
  • A level 2 who works Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will get
    • 8 booster boxes
    • $640 cash or $800 ChannelFireball store credit
    • 1 Grand Prix playmat
    • 1 Special Gift
Status types
You may apply for one or both statuses: Confirmed or Standby.

  • Confirmed means that you are confirmed to work the event. Staffing needs vary day-by-day, but Friday staffing will be posted shortly after final selections are made. To apply for Confirmed status, please select "Full Sponsorship."
  • Standby means that you are not confirmed to work on any day, but that you agree to show up and be "activated" as necessary. You will be included in forum communications, and we may activate you before the event begins. If you are not activated in advance, we encourage you to show up and play.
 
Please apply for all status types you will accept. If you select Standby and Confirmed, we will consider you for Confirmed staff first. If you do not select Standby, we will not consider you for Standby.
 
Paperwork
Please note that all staff members are independent contractors and will be required to complete US tax paperwork prior to beginning their shift. 
  • US citizens and other US persons, including permanent residents and citizens living internationally, must complete a W-9. 
  • Non-US persons must complete a W-8BEN.
This paperwork is required for each Grand Prix, even if you have previously completed forms for ChannelFireball.

Hotel

A block is availaile by going to to www.holidayinn.com/sanjoseairport the Group Code is: GPX.
 
To make it easier for guests at the Holiday Inn to get to and from the convention center, we've arranged a shuttle that will run back and forth between the Holiday Inn and the Convention Center during peak hours in the morning and evening. This shuttle is open to players who are staying at the Holiday Inn during their visit to San Jose.

Shuttle Hours:

Thursday, Jan 29: 9:30am - 12:30pm, 9pm-Midnight
Friday, Jan 30: 9:30am - 12:30pm, 9pm-Midnight
Saturday, Jan 31: 7:30am - 10:30am, 9pm-Midnight
Sunday, Feb 1: 7:30am - 10:30am, 9pm-Midnight

Pickup/Dropoff Locations:

Holiday Inn - In front of the trees on the corner of North 1st and Gish Rd.
San Jose Convention Center South Hall - on the corner of Market and Viola, in front of the right turn only sign.

Those interested in traveling during off-peak hours should consult the VTA transit schedule at www.VTA.org. The light rail runs from a station in front of the hotel to a station by the convention center with a fare of only $2 each way!
