Event Information
It's February, which means it's time to start planning another Judge Mob! What is a Judge mob? To Quote Ken Bearl:
What is it? A gathering of judges and aspiring judges at a different store once a month every month.
"Why should I go? Stores could hold a judge appreciation draft with 10 dollar entry and no prizes. Additionally I expect EDH games and possibly a cube draft to go on. Maybe could talk the store into a judge discount on that day.
"Why are we doing this? I want to foster a better relationship between stores and judges. Also hanging with judges and <s>complaining</s> talking about judge stuff is awesome. Ideally we also get judge candidates and new judges involved in the community.
"Why the weird name? Well I was thinking about it like a flash mob but with judges hence Judge Mob, I also like that judge mob should be an oxymoron. I thought Judge Circus would be funnier but not as neat.
"Why not use Judge Gathering as the name? Well I want judge gathering to be more special with group activities to focus on judges learning more like a mini conference."
There will be Pizza, Commander, and drafting. This event is open to all judges and prospective judges. There will be opportunities for testing for L1.
At this Judge mob I am also planning to run a new sort of draft, a "Borg Cube" draft.
The rules are simple: " This is a new magic cube format: Each participant brings 70 different cards in penny sleeves, with an ownership marker on them(for later sorting) 9 of each color, 9 colorless/artifacts, 9 gold cards, and 7 lands Shuffle them all together and draft with 5 packs of nine. Each card has a ~64% chance of being in the card pool. The cube changes based on who is playing and therefore the card pool. Conspiracy cards are allowed, but they count as colorless/artifacts. Silver bordered cards are not allowed."
