Akon

Tiffany Franzoni of Roll2Play in Coppell is putting on the Magic tournaments at A-Kon this year. It was Chris Mettler and Madness last year and probably some other years before that. This convention has some unusual quirks. One quirk that affects judges applying for this event is that even though the event is the first weekend in June, I have to choose judges by the end of March and those accepted will immediately need to fill out volunteer information on the A-Kon website. But we'll worry about those details when the judge staff has been selected.

There will be Magic events at A-Kon on Friday evening and all day Saturday, JUNE 5 and JUNE 6. Judges will receive weekend badges to Akon and will have opportunities to enjoy the con.

FRIDAY NIGHT - In the spirit of a big FNM, a sealed deck tournament featuring Dragons of Tarkir and Fate Reforged. Staff will consist of two floor judges and myself.

SATURDAY MORNING 11:00 am - Standard Constructed Tournament  - This will be the biggest Magic event of the weekend with up to 200 (but probably 100) players. Staff will consist of a Head Judge (doesn't have to be me) and five floor judges.

SATURDAY EVENING  6:00 pm - Sealed Deck (hopefully Standard Sealed, if not we might make do with Dragons/Fate sealed a second time) limited to 32 players more for time constraints than any other limitations. I am likely to Head Judge (but I might pick someone else to do it). Staff will include a Head Judge and two floor judges.

Compensation being offered is a box of product per shift and food and drinks. If you were to work Friday night and Saturday you would get two boxes. I believe our TO may sweeten the deal further at the event, particularly if attendance is good. The two judges working with me on Saturday night can arrive on Saturday afternoon. The judges working with me on Saturday morning need to arrive at 10:00 am.

The biggest issue with this event is the fact that I have to nail down the staff by March 31st. The judges who are accepted will need to apply immediately on the Akon site as volunteers. I know how challenging it is to commit to an event more than two months away but I hope you will find the oppotunity interesting enough to try.
