UKISA Leadership Conference 2015

Buongiorno! Greetings from Italy.

Between GPs Krakow, Paris and Florence, and a holiday with Maria (not that one), I’ve been a little more disorganised on this fron than I’d like to have been, so firstly I’d like to apologise for keeping everybody waiting. Unfortunately the first couple of places I found fell through, but we’ve got somewhere suitable in the end and now that the venue has just confirmed receipt of the contracts and payment for the booking, so I’m able to formally announce our region’s 2015 Leadership Conference in Sheffield. All L3+ judges along with all Area Captains are invited to attend, and will need to register their interest through the JudgeApps page to confirm their attendance (and ensure they receive their judge foils!). The conference will not be open to other judges.

Dates - 18th and 19th of July

Requirements

Equipment - if anybody is able to provide a projector and screen, that saves on the cost of hiring them. I’ve been able to find somewhere which provides these at a not-too-unreasonable price, but every little helps.

Volunteers to set up / dismantle - we have the venue from very early on Saturday morning, so a couple of us arriving early to collect the keys and make sure all the equipment is sorted seems like a good idea.

Content

Our aim is to build the seminar content, as much as possible, around presentations on the recently-tweaked L3 Qualities list. Suggestions for seminars on other topics are welcome, however, and if there’s anything specific you’d like to see discussed please feel free to say so either here or in your judgeapps application (or offer to present the topic yourself!). There will also be a State of the Union Address from our Dear Leader(s).

Catering

The venue has on-site catering and also offers a buffet service. Our options are essentially that each person sorts themselves out at the cafeteria, or that we club together for the buffet. I’ve been asked to give them a final decision on that front before the end of June, as well as to let them know of any special dietary requirements anybody might have, so that’s something which we should try and sort out here sooner rather than later. We are asked not to bring outside food into the venue.

Evening meal / social activities

The venue is close to Centertainment, a local… er.... Entertainment Centre (see what they did there?) with cinema, bowling, and plenty of restaurants of various kinds; to the city centre; and to my own house. Between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, depending everybody’s travel plans, I’d like to organise some combination of a meal out together and/or barbecue in my back garden (possibly weather permitting - it’s Yorkshire after all).

Accommodation 

There are a number of hotels reasonably close to the venue. I’m also able to put a few people up at my house if that’s helpful. Space there is obviously finite, so I’d like to offer that first to those presumably spending the most on travel (especailly those hopping on a plane).
