Event Information
We are very pleased to announce the third Michigan Judge Mini-Conference of 2015, hosted in Saginaw, MI!
What is a Mini-Conference?
Judge mini-conferences and gatherings are great ways to pool our knowledge of this wonderful game and help others sharpen their skills. This conference will feature a series of short, focused seminars based on judging at Competitive REL followed by opportunities to get to know your fellow Michigan (and perhaps surrounding area) judges.
Who can attend?
This mini-conference is open to anyone who desires to learn more about judging at competitive REL, regardless of current judge level. Be prepared to get involved with interactive presentations focused on competitive judging.
Where/When is it?
This mini-conference will be hosted at State Lanes Bowling Center in Saginaw, MI on Sunday, June 28th at 1 PM. Overnight accommodations are available 5 minutes from the venue if necessary.
Do we receive judge foils for attending?
Since this is not an official regional judge conference, judge foils are NOT available.
What will the presentations be about?
While some presentations are already planned, please provide in your application a little bit about what you wish to learn. Keep in mind that this conference is focused on Competitive REL.
May I have a chance to present?
We are looking for a few judges who wish to have the opportunity to present. If you would like to have this chance, please indicate that in your application.
What will we be doing?
The schedule is subject to change, but should go something like this:
-1:00-2:45: Presentations
-2:46-3:00: Short Break
-3:01-5:00: Presentations
-5:01 and beyond: Drafts, Bowling, and fellowship.
What about judge testing?
In the last few years, Magic: The Gathering has been hitting record numbers of Competitive level events in Michigan. This means that there is a growing need for great judges all over the state.
L1 testing will be available on site for qualified applicants. Please contact us ahead of time if you wish to be tested for L1
L2 testing is unknown at this time. Look for an update by June 1st.
What should I plan on bringing with me?
Feel free to bring whatever you need to retain knowledge from the presentations, as well as any Magic format you wish to play after the presentations. We plan on being open late, so also feel free to bring any other game or interest you may have.
Anything else to mention?
Food
We will be ordering food to be available around break.
Drinks
There will be a full bar on site (for 21+) as well as Pepsi products
Michigan is a great place to be a Magic judge, but with your participation, we can make it even better!
