Event Information
Thank you for your interest in events at Victory Comics, the largest gaming space inside the beltway! We are looking for a number of judges to make our events a success, so please, read on to determine how we can work together.
Staff for this event will consist of:
Two Floor Judges
Two Standbys, activated at 50 and 64 players respectively
One scorekeeper
Format
The weekend consists of two events:
$1,000 TCGPlayer Platinum tournament (Modern) - October 3
$1,000 Pre-Pro Tour Qualifier (Battle for Zendikar Limited) - October 4
Both events will run swiss rounds as recommended by the MTR, with a cut to Top 8. Players in the PPTQ will use Sealed deck for the Swiss rounds, and draft at the beginning of the playoffs.
Compensation
Judges on staff on Saturday will receive their choice of one booster box of any in-print standard-legal set or $135 in store credit per day worked, lunch, and drinks while on duty.
Judges on staff on Sunday will receive their choice of one-and-a-quarter booster boxes of any in-print standard-legal set or $170 in store credit per day worked, lunch, and drinks while on duty.
We are also expecting to be shipped a number of TCGPlayer.com Judge Playmats - if these are included, they will be distrubted to judges.
Expectations
Judges are expected to be on-site, in judge uniform, at 10:30 am on each day they will be working. Seatings for the player meeting will be posted at 11:00 am, so if you are running late, please call the store so we can be prepared. Head judges are expected to stay until the event is concluded, floor judges should plan to stay until the Top 4 begins.
Judges are expected to be familiar with the IPG, MTR and Comp Rules, including any updates with the release of Battle for Zendikar.
If you do not have a Magic Judge shirt, please wear a black long-sleeve dress shirt - we may have a shirt in your size available to borrow for the day.
Standby
We have two standby slots available for each day. Standby judges will be activated if the player count exceeds player thresholds, and will be released at the end of swiss rounds. Standby judges should be on-site by 10:30 am prepared to work the event; if you are not needed as a judge, you will be given free entry to play in the event instead. If we lend you a deck to play in the event, you probably want to count it before registering it.
Application Guidelines
Staffing for this event will be a mix of level one and level two judges. L1s on staff will be expected to have a strong knowledge of the IPG - preference will be given to L1s who are nearing completion of their L2 checklist.
Staff for all fall events will be announced within one week of the application deadline.
