$2K13 Standard Magic TCGPlayer Platinum Tournament at Stockton-Con 2013

Red Sky Comics from Merced, CA is running its first large tournament. It will be part of Stockton-Con 2013.

Looking for Judges of varying experience that can make sure our players have a fantastic time. Another shop did the Magic tournaments last year at Stockton-Con and the players were very upset with how they were treated (promised cash prizes, only to be given packs instead) and it took them 8 hours to get through 4 rounds. As such we want to make sure this event is exceptional and show the folks at Stockton-Con how to do Magic! In summary: this is make or break for Magic: the Gathering at Stockton-Con. The event is a 2K standard event, with a player cap of 256. Judges are expected to arrive at 8 am to help with set up and stay until we tear down (around 11 pm).

Judges must bring a black dress shirt. We are going to try to provide all judges with a Red Sky Comics t-shirt that they may wear during the event. Also ID badges that will identify them as convention volunteers will be provided.

Compensation is as follows: $15 cash for gas money and choice of $75 cash OR $120 store credit with Red Sky Comics. In addition, we will provide $20 cash or $30 store credit to each judge if tournament attendance surpasses 200, as a way to encourage judges to bring players in. In addition, we will compensate judges for each side event they run (this depends on the event and will be determined later).

We plan on hiring 6 judges minimum. A pool of 10 standby judges will also be selected. All standby judges whose applications are accepted and come to the event, but are not needed to judge will be granted free entry to the main tournament. We anticipate on having a 25 players to 1 judge ratio.

Red Sky Comics is proud to present a TCGPlayer MaxPoint $2K13 Platinum & Grand Prix Trial Oakland Standard Tournament at Stockton-Con 2013! August 4th at Stockton Arena, Red Sky Comics is bringing an event not to miss. Over $2000 in prizes! Side events all through out the day, including booster draft, sealed, Commander, Legacy, Standard, and Modern!

A portion of all proceeds will go to help Stockton-Con raise money for the United Way and St. Mary's Dining Room. In addition, all players in the main tournament can get tickets for Stockton-Con for only $6

Registration: 9:00 am - 10:15 am (deck lists are required)

Tournament begins at 10:30 am

Format: Standard

Structure: Swiss rounds (50 minutes), with cut to top 8

Rules Enforcement Level: Competitive (deck lists are required)

Entry Fee: $35 day of, $30 pre-paid in store at Red Sky Comics.

256 player cap for the event.

Prizes:

1st Place: $600 cash, First place plaque, TCGPlayer Top 8 Playmat, 60 MaxPoints, and 2 round byes for Grand Prix Oakland!

2nd Place: $400 cash, TCGPlayer Top 8 Playmat, 40 MaxPoints.

3rd-4th Place: $200 cash, TCGPlayer Top 8 Playmat, 30 MaxPoints.

5th-8th Place: $150 cash, TCGPlayer Top 8 Playmat, 20 MaxPoints.

9th-16th Place: TCGPlayer Playmat, 10 MaxPoints.

17th-32nd Place: TCGPlayer Playmat, 5 MaxPoints.

If player attendance goes past 200, we will award $50 cash to 9th to 16th places!

Note: the gaming floor is separate from the main floor of Stockton-Con. Entrants to the main tournament may buy tickets for Stockton-Con from Red Sky Comics's gaming booth for only $6 (Normally $10 at the door).
