6th Annual BeNeLux Judge Conference

24-26 June 2016

The conference will start on Friday evening at 18.00 hours and end on Sunday evening at 18.00 hours.
Everything is voluntary and no extra costs are involved.

This year we will be staying at "Arbeid - Adelt" in De Moer, The Netherlands.
For details, see the venue information.
Of course, once again our weekend will be filled with seminars, workshops, discussions and free play time.
There is a maximum capacity of 64 attendees, so please apply sooner, rather than later.

The schedule looks as follows;
Friday
from 18.00:      Arrival
19.00 - 21.00:  Dinner
21.30 - ??.??:  Free time

Saturday
10:00     State of the Community                Richard Drijvers
Our Regional Coordinator informs us about the state of the judge community, it's goals, it's growth, and it's challenges for the coming year
11:15     The pillars of our community                Jonas Drieghe
What are the basic elements of a thriving community and how is the judge community doing in this regard? Can we make this better by following examples of other communities?
11:15    404 Error: Card not Found                Jona Bemindt
In this seminar we'll take a look at the ins and outs of Hidden Card Errors. What are they? Where are they hidden? How can we find them again? And most importantly: Who hid them? A story of suspense, intrigue and unexpected plot-twists.
12:15    Lunch
13:45    Enabling Diversity in the Magic Community        Dustin de Leeuw
Some ideas on how to make our community more open, welcoming and diverse, and how we all can contribute to that goal in our roles as players, Judges and TOs. This seminar will give you some information about gender identity and provide some simple, practical ways to improve player experience.
13:45    Layers for Dummies; The chapter 613 Explained        Stéphane Van Cauwenberghe
Layers are one of the most difficult parts of the Comprehensive Rules to learn. They are often a bane to both players and beginning judges. In this seminar, you will learn why we have them and how they work. With examples and mini-exercises, their order will be engraved into your memory for decades. This presentation is intended for Beginner judges and Skilled-one who wishes to improve their knowledge about the Layer and Dependency System.
15:00    Collaboration & Team Work                Tommy de Knegt
A rundown on how the bursting judge community in Eindhoven schedules and runs their local tournaments together.
15:00    Go! The ending phase explained.            Anniek van der Peijl
In this seminar we will take a detailed look at the inner workings of the End Step and the Cleanup Step. Learn the difference between "at end of turn", "until end of turn", "this turn" and more uncommon things like "end the turn". Find out what you can and can't do in the Cleanup Step. At the end, hopefully you will know exactly what happens when you say "Go!"
16:00    Break
16:15    Slow Play                    Philip Körte
One of the most occuring, least penalised infractions. This seminar aims to provide better understanding and tools how to approach players that are commiting this infraction.
16:15    The Judge Program and You (Your mileage may vary)    Norbert Sarkany
This seminar is meant to help (level one) judges to find their place in the program because what you currently see in the social media (exemplar, GPs, whatnot) are only a miniscule part of the whole experience.
17:15 – 18:15    End of Day 1 Dinner (prep, clean up, etc.)
21:00     Japanese Modern Masters 2015 Boosterdraft

Sunday
before 10.00:  Breakfast
10:00    Troublesome behavior                    Michiel Klapwijk
How to handle unsporting conduct. When does behavior become unsporting, and when does it become an infraction?
10:00    Things I learned not playing magic            Han Tesselaar
Tournament Organisation and Refereeing in Field Hockey
11:00    Fun at Regular                        Alex de Bruijne
A walk through the fun-faire of regular with raffle-rides and food-fantasies, under strict supervision of the Phun-Police.
11:00    The Exemplar Program: Above and Beyond        Emilien Wild
This seminar will tell you everything you want to know about this program: its origins, its goals, how it work, and yes, its foil judge promo cards.
12:00    Lunch
13:30    An introductory guide to judging at Competitive REL    Jackson Moore
This presentation aims to help Level 1 and Level 2 judges who are new to Competitive play gain some knowledge of what is expected of them during a tournament, ranging from the first contact with the TO to an introduction to investigations.
14:30    A Magical Quiz                        Niels Viane
In this epic event you will clash with randomly assembled teams to see who has the best knowledge of just about any Magic and judge related topics. Please bring a small non-transparent container you can seal.
16.00 - 18.00: Clean Up
18.00  End of Conference
