2016 Summer NorthWest Judge Conference

Hello everyone!   It is my pleasure to invite you all to our region's next Judge Conference! This conference will be held on Sunday, August 7th at the Highline Community College in Des Moines, WA.  Directions can be found here.

Registration

All certified judges are welcome to register for this conference by applying to this JudgeApps event.  The deadline for registration is June 15th. Certified judges who have registered by this date and attend a seminar during each time slot will receive a package of foils.  If you are not a certified judge or you wish to join us after the registration deadline has passed, you are welcome to attend seminars but you will not recieve any foils.

A useful skill for a judge is being able to write a good cover letter.  Please do yourself the favor to take the time and write a serious cover letter (tell us things like why you'd like to attend, what you could potentially contribute and any goals you may have for the conference). 

We have an attendance limit of 80 judges.  Please apply early to ensure your spot!

Schedule and Presentations

We'll get together at 11am on Sunday to have a pizza party (pizza and soda provided!!) and socialize.  We plan to start the seminars promptly at noon and will finish around 6pm.  If you are interested in presenting at this conference, please email Ronald Thompson with your presentation topic, a short summary (including your target audience), and any materials you may need to present.  We would love to offer attendees a choice between 2 and 4 seminars at each timeslot, which means we'd like to have between 12-24 presenters.  Each presentation should be approximately 50 minutes long.  A detailed schedule of seminars will be posted to the event page a few weeks before the conference.

Testing

Are you a L0 looking to test for L1?  Or maybe L1 testing for L2?  Come to the conference and we are happy to test you!  Please contact Zach Robinson via email to coordinate your testing.  Please note: L0s testing at this conference are not eligible to receive foils, even if you pass your test.

Hotel

The best quality-to-price hotel in the area is the Four Points by Sheraton.  At the time of this writing, one night costs $75.  Conveniently, the hotel is within walking distance of the college!  Here is the hotel's address:

Fun stuff

Before the conference, we can all get together and have a mini-party on Saturday evening.  It would be un-official but I'm sure we have some spare product laying around.  Maybe a bring-your-own-booster draft?  Dinner at a nearby restaurant?  Lets organize through the forums and have fun!

After the conference, let's all hang out!  Dinner will be on our own but we can coordinate some sort of delivery and eat together, if there is interest.  Bring a deck of your favorite format, a cube you'd like to draft, or some sealed product for fun!  :D
