Judge Expectations:
- Judges are to wear black shirt, pants, shoes and belt. A tidy, groomed and professional appearance is required!
- Judges are expected to maintain several Fantastic Store core values:
- One is a "rated PG" language policy; yes judges we are asking that you ask players to keep the language polite. You are expected to support this, demonstrate it, and help administrate this degree of civility with the event's players. The Fantastic Store runs other events for various ages of participants and the Magic community is expected to maintain a kid-friendly environment, and yes, few to no children are expected for this event, and they will be in other parts of the store shopping for cards and supplies as well. Keep the salt in the shaker.
- Another is to assist with the overall cleanliness of the store and help keep the place tidy and good looking.
- Magic: The Gathering is growing quickly for the store, and we intend to continue to grow! Bring your best customer service attitude, we want our players to return!
- The store will open at 10am, Judges please arrive no later than 9:45 AM for a brief judges meeting.
- Judges will assist with arranging tables, chairs, cleaning packs/trash throughout the day.
- Judges will facilitate a warm environment and encourage fun and competitive play.
- Judges are expected to have prior experience participating in COMPETITIVE REL events.
- Judges will make ruling calls and enforce the competitive rules maintained at http://wpn.wizards.com/en/resources/rules-documents/244, and in particular the current version of the IPG, currently found at: http://wpn.wizards.com/sites/wpn/files/attachements/mtg_ipg_8apr16_ena.pdf
- Note that judges need to be current on the Shadows Over Innistrad Release Notes, errata, and will have a mastery of the comprehensive rules, tournament rules, and the Infraction Procedure Guide.
- Judges will confer with the Head Judge for any Game Loss, Match Loss, and DQs.
- Judges will administrate verbal warnings and maintain game play when appropriate.
- Judges will record game warnings and more severe penalties in written form. Judges are encouraged to bring pad/paper comfortable for carry throughout the day.
- Judges will post pairings and hand out match slips.
- Judges will guide players to feature match areas, and to numbered tables.
- Judges are asked to work a long day and fit in lunch and dinner activities with the on-site food services. We'll sort out a time to put your feet up and take a break! Fantastic Store Staff will coordinate food options for Judging and Tournament staff.
- Judges are asked to request and collect optional event feedback forms and provide those to the store manager.
- The event will fire at 11am for deck building and run up to 7 rounds of swiss. We will follow Tournament guidelines for number of rounds, and in particular if under the 64 player mark, we will play 6 rounds of swiss.
