Event Information

Hello and welcome for the judge solicitation for the Stansted RPTQ for PT Eldritch Moon! This tournament is being run by Axion Now in a combined event with one of their Standard format 'Fly the World - Win a Crate' Mega GPTs (where the first prize includes a flight to GP Sydney and the rest of the top 8 each win a crate) and with a host of side events including Modern and Standard format scheduled events and exotic, 2HG and Shadows over Innistrad drafts. So it should be a big one, and as such we're looking for a large number of judges to help us make this event a success.

I will be acting as judge and event coordinator for this event, but there will separate head judges for each of the main events. Jack Doyle will be the head judge for the RPTQ, with Oli Bird as head judge for the Mega GPT. Head judges for the Modern and Standard side events will be assigned nearer to the time.

Base compensation for a floor judge of this event will be one box of the current Magic set (Shadows over Innistrad) and a food allowance. HOWEVER, Axion are very invested in having as many people as possible turn up for the Mega GPT, and are aware that if we cross the 229 player threshold an extra round is added and this becomes a longer event for the judges to manage. As such, if the Mega GPT attracts over 229 players, the compensation for all floor judges (no matter which tournaments they end up assigned to on the day) will be doubled. The previous two Mega GPTs attracted 270 and 274 players, so there is a strong precedent for this happening.

We may end up offering standby acceptance to a number of judges for this event with activation based on the number of players enrolled for the Mega GPT; exact details of the standby package are yet to be confirmed but is likely to include free entry to the Mega GPT unless a pre-specified number of players is reached for it, in which case you would get normal judge compensation. Please indicate if you would be happy to come as a standby on your application.

While the exact start time for the two main tournaments is still being discussed it is likely that the RPTQ will start at 9am and the Mega GPT at 10am, so I will be looking to have some judges on site from 8.15 in order to prepare product before the RPTQ starts, some coming in at 8.50 in order to help with the start of the sealed event and the rest coming in at 9.30 in order to prepare and start the Mega GPT. The RPTQ will be deck build plus 8 rounds and the Mega GPT will be 8 or 9 rounds with a single elimination top 8, so there may be tournaments running until 10pm. Please indicate in your application if you are limited on times that you can arrive or by times that you would need to leave. We will prioritise releasing judges who start their shifts earlier first as the events begin to wind down.

I am aware that the application window for this event is very short, but I want to be able to give people as much time as possible to make their travel arrangements. As such, applications will close on Monday and I hope to have the selection done by Wednesday.
