Event Information
Hello judges,
We are pleased to open applications for Bazaar of Moxen 8, the largest Eternal convention in the world.
Applications for this event will close on August, 25th as we would like to announce the staff selection early September. If you have any questions, please email Kevin Desprez at kevin.desprez@gmail.com
BoM’s 8th Edition will take place from Friday, November 1st to Sunday, November 3rd in Paris, France. During these 3 days of gaming we are expecting more than 1000 unique players and are therefore looking for around 40 judges to run the 19 scheduled tournaments. You can find the whole schedule for the week-end on www.bazaar-of-moxen.com.
UPDATE on Friday:
It was brought to our attention that running the conference during day 1 was a dilemma for those of you to really wanted to do both. Because this is not what we originally intended, we have chosen to slightly modify the structure for Friday:
We'll be running the conference twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. We will have judges work half-a-day at the tournaments and enjoy the other half at the conference, if they'd like to attend.
We have added a couple questions to helps us optimizing scheduling for Friday.
We are also pleased to announce we will be offering dinner to the judge staff on Friday evening as well as Saturday evening.
Who do we look for?
We are looking for Head Judges, Floor Judges and also 1 to 2 Scorekeepers.
Bazaar of Moxen being an international event, you must speak English to apply. Speaking French is not mandatory, as we are aiming at moving from a French-speaking staff to an international staff
Floor judges
Since the vast majority of our events will be run at REL Competitive, we will strongly prefer applications coming from L2 or higher judges. However, if you are L1, feel free to apply, we may have a couple spots left for you.
Head Judges
If you would like to be the Head Judge of one of the Main Events (Legacy, Vintage, Sealed or Modern), you must be an L3 or higher level judge. Smaller tournament HJ positions will be made available to L2s. Please specify it in your application.
Scorekeepers
[Scorekeeper positions have already been filled]
Expectations
We expect our judges to be up-to-date with the latest Comprehensive Rules, Magic Tournament Rules and especially the latest MIPG version. Our Main Events offer significant prizes and we aim at giving our players the best possible play experience.
We expect judges to behave professionally at all times, including when they are off duty: Remember that even without a Judge Shirt, you will still be perceived as a staff member.
Even if we will do our best to reduce the length of your shifts, please be aware these will be long days, as some tournaments are likely to last 9 Swiss rounds.
Compensation:
L1 and L2s will be granted 1 box of product per day worked.
L3s and higher will be granted 1.5 box of product per day worked.
Scorekeepers will be granted 2 boxes of product per day worked.
On Friday, there will be half-compensation for those attending the conference, since they work half-a-day
Room Sponsorship:
We offer two kinds of room sponsorship (from Thursday evening to Monday morning)
• 100% sponsored beds
• Beds available for 4 nights against 1 box of compensation over the week-end.
We are aware the 100% sponsored beds are strictly better. However, we are unable to fully sponsor all judges and this is the best we can offer at the moment. Staff hotel is located right in front of the venue.
”Stand-by” positions
Since we want to gives players the best possible experience, we will make sure to be comfortably staffed. However, from Friday to Sunday, in case attendance would exceed our expectations, we will need more judges, which we plan to recruit from players. That’s why we created the “stand-by” judge position.
A stand-by judge is aiming at playing during the week-end. However, if attendance gets crazy, stand-by judges may get asked to not play and judge instead.
If we don’t need your help, you will get one free entry to an event of your choice each day from Friday to Sunday (including the Main Events).
Note that you won’t receive room sponsorship if you are selected for a stand-by position.
If you want to play BoM but don’t mind judging it, this is most likely what you want to apply for :)
Note that the number of stand-by positions will be limited. You need to be selected to benefit from this offer.
