On behalf of Tom Shea and TJ Collectibles, it is my pleasure to announce the staff solicitation for Grand Prix Washington DC.  This event will be held on the weekend of November 15,16 & 17th at the Dulles Expo Center, 4320 Chantilly Shopping Center, Chantilly, Virginia 20151.

Applying to be on judge staff at Grand Prix DC:

We will be taking applications on http://apps.magicjudges.org  through Sept, 14th  2013.

What you should know:

The head judges of this event will be Chris Richter and Kevin Desprez.

Applying to be on staff at Grand Prix Washington DC is applying to help make one of the finest Events in Magic happen. As such, we are looking for people who are willing to do whatever it takes to provide our players with the greatest play experience possible. Our event staff is a team, not just operations, event staff and/or judges. It takes everyone working together to be the best. Staff responsibilities include:

Judging
Operations
Crowd control
Artist / vendor assistance
Venue and room set up / tear down / remodel (moving tables, chairs,      straightening the room, helping keep tables clean, dealing with signage       etc….)
Product preparation
Customer service
Helping with coverage

We are looking to put the BEST staff together, not necessarily the largest.

We will be taking applications from now until Sept 14 , 2013. We will post the staff list as soon as possible. We may be letting people know prior to closing if they have been accepted.

In your applications, please make sure you put down what days and what time of those days you are available. (i.e. I can be available to help with set up on Friday morning – but I need to catch a plane on Sunday evening, so I need to be off at 3p.m.). Tell us your available dates/times in your cover letter.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATIONS

There is limited room sponsorship available for this event. If you require room sponsorship in order to be on staff for the GP, please make clear mention of this in your application. Room sponsorship covers Friday and Saturday night. There will be a small number of rooms available for those assisting with the late events on Sunday. If you are interested in this shift, please indicate this with your application. (Figure 1p.m. until events conclude around 10 or 11p.m.)

Staff requiring housing will be lodged two to a room. If you know other volunteers that you would like to stay with, please mention this in your application as well. Again, please put any relevant information in your application (in the cover letter).

There will be no deduction in compensation for those receiving a room, however priority will be given to those volunteers not requesting lodging.

FOOD

Staff will receive $20 for each day you are on staff. In addition to on site concessions, there are many food options within a short walk of the venue.

COMPENSATION

Staff for this event will receive base compensation of 36 packs of the most recent Magic set per full day they are helping. Level 3+ Judges will receive an additional half box per day. All certified judges volunteering for at least two days will receive a selection of promotional foil cards from the DCI.

Staff may opt to convert boxes for $100 in Magicsingles.com or TJCollect.com credit.

VENUE STAFF

In addition to regular judging staff, we are looking for people to help us create a team of venue staff. They will primarily work alongside venue security, and assist with making this GP safer for players and their belongings. L1s are welcome to apply. Skills should include strong communications, de-escalation of confrontations, a level temperament, and a strong presence. JUDGE CERTIFICATION

There will be opportunities for L1 and L2 testing at this event, coordinated by Nicholas Sabin.
