Gulf Coast Judge Mini-Conference

In cooperation with Crossroads, I'm thrilled to announce the Gulf Coast Spring Judge Conference for 2017!

 The Judge Conference is open to everyone, regardless of Judge Level or location. However, If you plan to attend, please apply here so that we will have an accurate headcount for planning purposes.

Venue

Crossroads is hosting us for this conference! They have a large play area which will be converted for our use. The store features many board games, other TCGs, Warhammer 40k, and various collectibles, in addition to a good Magic selection!

Agenda

Testing

Testing will be available at this event.  If you are interested in testing, please contact Nate Hurley for more information.  If you do not contact Nate prior to the conference, you will not be able to test at the conference.

Foils

In order to receive foils for attending, you must be a certified Judge and register on or before February 15th, 2017, we will be capping attendance at 20 so please get those applications in early

Other details

There is no attenance charge, but please bring funds to cover meals and snacks that are not covered. This will include the Judge dinner.

Casting a spell is much more than mumbling “bolt the bird” and tossing a card in the ‘yard. Let’s study the steps and delve into the details of modes, targets, divisions and more. We’ll talk about the _why_  behind the _how_  as well as some common conundrums players encounter.

Did that just happen?  We will discuss how to approach a situation as a judge and correct problems at Regular and Competitive REL

Ever wonder how things work when you have 2 heads?  This short primer will help to zero in on how specific cards and situations pertain to you when you have a buddy sitting next to you.

Kyle Evans: Tournament Shortcuts

What does GO mean in Magic?  Did you know there are lots of Shortcuts you observe in normal Magic that isn't really explained?  We are going to delve into the world of Tournament Shortcuts, why they are useful, what some common examples are, and the best way to approach the game.

Amanda Coots: Judge Calls Live!

Journey deep into the world of actually taking a Judge Call.  What happens when situations change?  Experience a fun and interactive experience as you take some Judge Calls and enter into interesting situations.

Jonathan Reasoner: Being a Leader in Your Community

Leading your community is one of the greatest task Magic Judges have before them.  How do you want to step up as a leader and help bring your community together as well as strengthen your resolve to make the game more popular in your area.  We will discuss what makes good leadership and how to use that energy to build a strong community.
