Welcome!
Hello, and thank you for your interest in judging at Grand Prix Richmond. The format for this Grand Prix will be Amonkhet Sealed on Saturday followed by Amonkhet Draft on Sunday. Below, you will find all of the information needed to apply for the Grand Prix. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us at judge@starcitygames.com.
- Head Judge - Eric Levine, L3, Swampscott, Massachusetts
- Appeals Judge - Scott Marshall, L3, Lakewood, Colorado
- Appeals Judge - CJ Crooks, L3, Fayetteville, North Carolina
Staff for this event will be primarily Level 2+ Judges. A small number of Level 1 Judges may be selected to assist with side events.
Expectations
Judges at Grand Prix Richmond are expected to prepare for the event by reviewing the Comprehensive Rules, Magic Tournament Rules, Infraction Procedure Guide, and Judging at Regular REL documents. These documents can be found at the Magic: The Gathering Document Center. As certified representatives of the Magic Judge Program, judges are expected to behave in a professional manner at all times. Judges are expected to arrive on time and in appropriate attire to begin judging at the start of their assigned shifts. The Head Judge will be arranging main event shifts for Saturday and Sunday and StarCityGames.com will assign side event shifts including all Friday schedules.
Judges at Grand Prix Richmond should dress in Magic Judge Program attire including Official Magic Judge shirt, black pants, black belt, and comfortable black shoes. During breaks, or any other time that a judge is off duty, judges should remove or cover their Judge shirt. If you do not have a black Magic Judge shirt, one will be provided for you.
Compensation
All Judges will receive a Grand Prix Richmond playmat along with an exclusive gift. Compensation will be determined by level:
- Regular REL In-Store (Level 1) judges will receive $175 for each full day on staff.
- Competitive (Level 2) judges will receive $250 for each full day on staff.
- Premier (Level 3) judges will receive $325 for each full day on staff.
All judges will be required to sign an agreement for their work at Grand Prix Richmond. Compensation will be in the form of a check, which will be provided at the end of your final shift of the weekend or mailed out after the event. International judges will receive their compensation in the form of a PayPal payment after the event. Judges will be required to fill out a valid W-9 (domestic) or W-8 BEN (international) US tax form in order to receive their compensation.
Food, Lodging, and Travel
StarCityGames.com is making travel sponsorship available to a limited number of Competitive (Level 2) and Premier (Level 3) judges:
- Partial Travel Sponsorship - $50 per day
- Full Travel Sponsorship - $100 per day
The Grand Prix Richmond application form has questions to indicate the level of sponsorship you are applying for as well as whether you would be willing to consider a lower tier of sponsorship. Judges will not be offered a sponsorship level more than one tier below their requested level. Note that financial considerations will be taken into account when staffing this event. Please note that this application page no longer makes a distinction between Volunteer and Sponsorsed. That information will be handled via application form and individual e-mails.
Additionally, Level 2 and Level 3 Judges may apply for Keystone Sponsorship for this event as well. For more information on Keystone, please follow this link.

- Click on the "Apply Now!" link toward the top of the page.
Note: If your judge level is currently incorrect on JudgeApps when you apply please speak to the person who certified you to get it updated before the application window closes.
Due to staff needs, judges may be accepted for one, two or three days. There are questions in the Grand Prix Richmond application form to indicate your preference, and requirements to attend, in your application.
The application window for Grand Prix Richmond will close at 11:59 PM Eastern time on March 5th, 2017. Judges wishing to apply for this event after the application window has closed will need to contact us at judge@starcitygames.com. Please note that late applications will be considered at a lower priority than those received during the official application window. Applications will not be considered unless the judge has both completed the JudgeApps application and submitted GoogleForm responses.
Grand Prix Richmond staff will be announced on, or before, March 13th. If an earlier notification of your application's status would facilitate making travel plans, please contact us at judge@starcitygames.com once you have submitted your application.
