After 5 years of WMCQs we finally got...

¡Magic Nationals back!

This time Hobbit's Land will be the Tournament Organizer, and the event will be held in Complexo Desportivo de Alcabideche, on September 9th-10th. They count with us to help them to provide players a great experience during a weekend full of Magic events :)

This year I'm pleassed to announced that the Head Judge (HJ) for the Portuguese National 2017 will be Antonio José Rodríguez!

If you want to apply to be part of the judge staff and join AJ and myself during this event, please read carefully the following information and apply before Thrusday July 20th.

1) Judge staff and expectations

For this event we'll need a team of L2 judges to cover the different needs during the weekend. The following numbers will be considered to cover the player attendance prevision:

  * Saturday and Sunday: 9 judges (including the HJ) + SK + 2 Standby judges

Even if we'll have a wide judge team to cover the event needs, be aware that there will be many people interested in judging the event and staff selection will be difficult.

Nationals will be a 2-day multiformat event, with 6 rounds of Standard and 2 Booster Drafts during the swiss portion, with a top 8 cut, as you can see in the Fact Sheet. Exact details about the event will be published by the TO and the HJ will inform you later during the event preparation.

Selected judges should be up to date in Rules, Policy and the event format (both constructed and limited) at these dates. To keep the event's integrity and a good customer service to players you'll be probably requested to pass an online practice test in the weeks prior to the event.

In addition, you're expected to have an exemplar behaviour as event judges (inside and outside the event) and to be ready to judge on time with the uniform (*) at the beginning of your assigned shift.

(*) Black Magic Judge shirt, black pants, black belt and black shoes. If you have the Iberia Magic Judges t-shirt, you're encouraged to bring it to the event as well, just in case.

2) Selection types and benefits

There are three different type of sponsorship applications. Please, select those you need and/or would be willing to accept:

* Stand by judge: The judge commits to be available at the beginning of the day and accepts to be taken as part of the judge team if neede (receiving the corresponding Volunteeer compensation for this day); getting in exchange free entry for the Main event (or equivalent alternatives in case the judge is not qualified). This position is open for judges who are planning to attend to play and wouldn't mind to give an extra hand in case of need.

* Volunteer: The judge will be part of the judge staff during the day/s being accepted, receiving the corresponding compensation to their role (see Section 4) and food during the shift. The judge will not receive any travel nor hotel reimbursement/sponsorship.

* Full sponsorship: Volunteer + Room sponsorship + Travel sponsorship. The judge receiving this sponsorship commits to help on minimizing all the potential travel costs.

3) Days selected

You can select to judge one or two days, but it might not be possible to satisfy everybody's first interest. Please, mark both your interests and your preferences if both days selection wouldn't be possible.

4) Compensation

In case of being selected, the judge will receive the following compensation for each day on staff:

- HJ/SK: 120€

- FJ: 90€

TO might be interested in reducing the cash total amount offering part of the compensation in sealed product for judges interested in this option (more information would be share closer to the event if this option becomes available).

Apart from the compensation, the judge will receive either food, vouchers or money during their days in staff.

Judges with Full Sponsorship (or any kind of Room/Travel sponsorship) will also receive the associated benefits.

5) ¡Conferences!

Since Magic Nationals are a great party for everybody and a good way of meeting together, we'll be running the Portuguese split of the Iberian Judge Conferences '17 on Friday September 8th.
