Irish Nationals 2017

On behalf of Martin Kenny and Gamers World, I am very delighted to invite applications for judges for this year's Irish Nationals. The Irish Nationals is the centrepiece of organised play for the year.

This year's Nationals will have four rounds of Standard followed by an Ixalan draft and three rounds with those draft decks on Saturday. The top 8 will take place on Sunday in Standard format. The Head Judge of the Nationals will be Thomas Ralph, level 3 judge from Cork.

There will also be a range of side events including Last Chance Trials and Qualifiers on Friday (in Gamers World's store in Dublin 1) and a PPTQ on Sunday, as well as on-demand drafts. We are looking for judges to help us with these events. Any level 1 or higher judge is welcome to apply. For certain roles (Friday head judge, PPTQ head judge) you would need to be level 2 or 3.

We offer the option to apply for standby. Standby judges will be asked to attend and be ready to judge, and if activated will be paid the base compensation. If not required, they will be allowed to play free of charge in any constructed side events and in a reasonable number of limited side events.

Besides the standard floor judging roles, judges may be asked to assist with registration, scorekeeping, or other ancillary event duties.

The base compensation for judges is 1x box of Ixalan per day worked, or equivalent store credit, plus a food stipend per day. Judges will also be entitled to complimentary admission to the Official World-Famous Irish Nationals Magic Table Quiz on Saturday night. We can make available preferential rates in the Plaza Hotel if desired – please use the room sponsorship to indicate this. Note that room sponsorship does not include paid-for hotel.

Judges will be required from 11:00am on Friday, 9:00am on Saturday, and 10:00am on Sunday. End time on Sunday will depend on event requirements but if you need to leave before 6:00pm on any day please don't apply for that day. An extensive cover letter is not required if you have worked with Gamers World or Thomas Ralph in the past.
