Event Information

General Information

Swedish Nationals 2017 will be held September 9-10 in Stockholm, organized by Dragon’s Lair. It will be a two-day event, with five rounds of standard and a draft during Saturday and top 8 during Sunday. Both days (but mostly Sunday) will feature side events in varying formats.

This is an event with a larger staff than most other local events, which means you will be working in a team of other judges, often with a specific task. If there is a particular part of the event you would find interesting, make sure to include that in your cover letter. It is possible not all requests can be accommodated, but letting us know helps your chances.

This is one of the highest levels of competitive play with qualifications for the World Magic Cup and Pro Points on the line. As such, priority will be given to L2+ judges and judges with solid experience from competitive REL events.

Shifts

(These times are currently preliminary and might change slightly)

The Saturday shift starts at 8:00 and ends at 22:00.

The Sunday shift starts at 9:45 and ends at 20:00.

Location

Saturday events are held in Venue81 on Drottninggatan 81 in central Stockholm, only a short walk from Stockholm Central Station. Sunday events are held in the Dragon’s Lair store on Kungsholmstorg 8, Stockholm.

Compensation

For each day on staff, you receive one box of (36) boosters from Hour of Devastation. Anyone working Saturday will also get free entry in one of the Sunday drafts (or other event).

Expectations

If you are selected to be on staff, you will be expected to show up early enough to be in judge attire and ready to work at the assigned time. Judge attire includes black shoes, black trousers and a judge shirt. You will also be expected to be available until the assigned end-time of the shift. If you need to leave early, please notify Patrick Ericsson before the event and as soon as possible.

During the event, you’ll be representing not just yourself but also the Swedish judge community as well as Dragon’s Lair. As such, you’ll be expected to act with the professionalism and welcoming attitude the judge program is known for during the entirety of your shift (even when on break).

As a judge, you will be expected to be up to date on the rules and policy documents to ensure all players can expect a fair and well-run event.

Judge testing

If you are interested in testing for L1 or L2, there will be opportunities to do so during Sunday at this event. However, doing so requires making an appointment in advance. Contact the judge manager (Patrick Ericsson) if you are interested.
