Mox Mania Modern Open

Greetings!

The Mox Mania Modern Open series is a popular cash/invitational tournament series. Cash prizes top out at a few hundred $dollars, and players who do well receive qualifier points towards an invitation to a prestigious tournament at the end of the year (and the winner gets an auto-invite). This event is the second-to-last open/qualifier before the grand enchilada in December. This is a fantastic event for L2 judges who want to keep up their Comp-REL chops, and for L1s to get experience at a live Comp REL tournament.

I will require a Head Judge, and a Floor Judge/Standby. The Standby will be activated at the HJ's discretion. In my experience, after we hit 33 players, and thus move to 6 Swiss rounds, that's where I appreciate a second body. Turnout for these events has ranged from 30s into the 60s, with only rare dips below the aforementioned 33-player threshold, so the Standby should be prepared to judge.

Requirements:

The Head Judge should be a Level 2+ judge, or a Level 1 judge that is on the cusp of L2, with solid rules and Competitive REL policy knowledge. The Floor Judge/Standby should have decent knowledge of the Infraction Procedure Guide, and good enough rules knowledge to handle common Modern rules interactions (e.g., Blood Moon, Inkmoth Nexus, Snapcaster Mage).

Expectations:

Registration starts at 10am, event starts at 11am. Please arrive no later than 10:30 to assist with setup and registration. Dress code is standard Judge Black (shirt/shoes/dress/skirt/pants/utilikilt/robe/sari/hijab/whatever).

Compensation:

Judges will be compensated in the form of booster packs, at the rate of 1/player for the Head Judge, and 0.5/player for the Floor Judge. (In lieu of packs, judges may also take store credit, at a rate of $2.25/pack.) If both judges are L2+, they may work out a different split. Judges are also provided complimentary drinks and light snacks.
