Unstable Release Weekend

Unstable Release weekend is soon to be upon us! I'm Board will be running a prerelease-style sealed event on Saturday, December 9th and a Draft Weekend style on-demand drafts event all day Sunday, December 10th. We are looking for judges who are interested in being a Head Judge for the Sealed event, as well as 2 judges to help with the drafts on Sunday.

If you do not wish to be spoiled about how this is being handled, please do not continue to read. If you continue to read, please do not share this information with anyone outside of event staff. We want this addition to the insanity to have as much of a surprise element as possible.

Responsibilities on Saturday will include posting pairings, scorekeeping, cutting and distributing match slips, and of course handling judge calls and delivering rulings. Opening announcements will be taken care of (see below). You will be playing while judging, keeping in spirit with the fun of the set.

Responsibilities on Sunday will include managing the brackets, working with the scorekeeper, distributing product, and handling judge calls / delivering rulings. You will be the Head Judge for the drafts that you seat.

Saturday Sealed Event

There will be a team of up to five judges, depending on the size of the event, to help make playing while judging more tenable. Calls will be handled by the team to minimize the impact on any singular judge. As compensation for judging, you get free entry to the event.

The Head Judge for the event will rotate. What this means is that the Head Judge at the start of the event (the one giving opening announcements and dealing with the sealed construction portion, whose name is probably some anagram of Macco Cilijib) will be demoted to a floor judge before round 1 begins, and we will have a new Head Judge for round 1. Every judge staffed will have a turn at being Head Judge for the event, meaning you are the one in charge, taking appeals, your rulings are final, etc.

All head judges will need to use WER for recording match results, and printing/cutting/distributing match slips. They will also need to use RTools to post the pairings and the round clock for their event. They are also expected to read the set release notes when they are available and come ready to answer player questions and promote a fun, educational, and positive experience for all of our players.

Judges are encouraged to dress fun for the event! Coming in an outfit in the spirit of one of the "tribes" for Unstable is preferred, but not required. Also, be prepared to present a reason why the former Head Judge was demoted, and why you are the clear and correct choice to replace them. Be creative, but please remember to keep it family friendly!

Call time for Saturday will be 10am. 

Sunday Draft Event

Sunday is going to be a little more chaotic, depending on how many drafts we get going. Judges will be compensated 0.75 packs per entrant, divided among the judge staff. Note that Sunday is going from 11am to 7pm, so this is running later than the normal draft weekend events do. Shifts may be arranged such that judges can take some time off of judging to get their own draft experience in, hence the desire to have more than one judge to handle the drafts.

Call time for Sunday will be 10:30am.
