Event Information
We're excited to invite you to the latest Boston Area Judge Conference!
This conference will be of an experimental format that includes an exciting Modern tournament!
Following a short seminar on investigations, we will be holding a four-round Competitive REL mock tournament with a twist: participants will be given roles to play that may modify their behavior. Conference participants should bring a Modern deck and a decklist for this tournament. If you do not have a deck, but wish to join us, we can very likely find one for you to borrow!
This conference will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Alpha Omega Games in Quincy, MA. Beginning at 10 AM, the conference will include a short break for lunch and will wrap up around 4 PM.
This is a teaching, networking, and social event for judges of all levels and anyone interested in the Magic Judge Program. There are no restrictions on attendance based on level or region - everyone is welcome to attend. Please help us plan for your attendance by applying to this event, or withdrawing if you are no longer able to make it.
Your organizers are Steve Guillerm, Elizabeth Hare, and Elliot Raff. Please feel free to email us at ne.judge.conference.MA@gmail.com with any questions or suggestions!
Standards of Conduct
We believe our community should be truly open for everyone. As such, we are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, religion, or country of origin. Please keep in mind that the Magic Judge Code of Conduct applies to all attendees.
Unacceptable behavior by attendees, organizers, presenters, volunteers, or other patrons of our venues will not be tolerated.
Anyone asked to stop unacceptable behavior is expected to comply immediately.
How to Register
If you are interested in attending, simply click the "Apply Now!" button up above! We will accept applications on a constant basis, so that you can quickly gain access to the event forums.
Attendance Capacity
There are some potential limitations on attendance at this conference. As a sign of appreciation, Wizards of the Coast allows us to offer attendees a selection of promotional foil cards, proportional to the number of seminars attended. The exact packet is not known at this time, but will include four promotional cards. These foils are available if you meet the following criteria:
- Register for the conference by applying to this JudgeApps event
- Be a certified (Level 1 or higher) Judge with a correct level in JudgeApps at the time you apply.
- Be among the first 30 people to do so.
- Separate from the above, the physical limitations of this venue require us to place a hard cap at 50 confirmed attendees.
If either of these caps is reached, we will place an update at the top of this solicitation, and we will keep you advised if space opens up.
Presenters/Staff
We are looking for 1-3 judges who are willing to lead a discussion on investigations prior to our mock tournament.
Additionally, we are looking for a small judge staff to run the mock tournament itself. Ideally, we want one Head Judge who is comfortable running a Competitive REL tournament and is looking for additional experience in investigations, as well as a couple of Floor Judges who would like to gain Competitive REL experience. Note that this tournament will not be sanctioned.
Schedule
The conference will start at 10 AM with a group discussion of the elements of a good investigation.
Starting roughly at 11 AM, we will start at 4-round tournament, with a short (30 minute) break between rounds 2 and 3 for lunch.
After round 4 (roughly 3:30 PM), we will have a short discussion of any interesting judge calls that came out of the tournament, or any other interesting stories.
