Judging a Grand Prix

Applying to be on staff at Grand Prix Atlanta is applying to help make one of the best events in Magic happen. As such, we are looking for people who have a desire to help in whatever way needed to create an amazing experience for our customers – the players. If you apply to be on staff for this event, please realize that we may (and probably will) ask you to help in any or all of the following capacities: 

• Judging

• Operations

• Crowd control

• Artist / Vendor assistance

• Venue/Room - set up / tear down / remodel (moving tables, chairs, straightening the room, helping keep tables clean, dealing with signage etc….)

• Product preparation

• Customer Service

• Helping with media coverage

Judges at Grand Prix Atlanta are expected to prepare for each event by reviewing the Comprehensive Rules, Magic Tournament Rules, Infraction Procedure Guide, and Judging at Regular REL documents. As representatives of Pastimes and the Magic Judge Program, judges are expected to behave in a professional manner at all times. This includes arriving on time, and in appropriate attire.

Judges are expected to arrive in time to be ready to judge at the start of their assigned shifts. The Head Judge will be arranging shifts for Saturday and Sunday and Pastimes will assign shifts for Friday. Please be sure to note which days you are available. Also, if you anticipate being unable to arrive by 9:00 am any day, or needing to leave before 8:00 pm any day, please include that information in your application.

Judges at Grand Prix Atlanta should be in standard Magic Judge Program attire of Official Magic Judge shirt, black pants, black belt, and comfortable black shoes. During breaks, or any other time that a judge is off duty, judges should remove, or cover, their Judge shirt. Once staff has been selected, there will be a forum thread to request Magic Judge shirts.

We will post the final staff list by April 25, 2014. We will accept staff on a rolling basis. Please note that most judges will be selected for two days, either Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday. If working all three days is required for you to attend, please note that in your application.

Compensation

Level 1 and 2 judges selected will receive 36 boosters of the current Magic expansion per day selected. Level 3+ judges will receive 54 packs of the current Magic expansion per day selected. In addition, any judge selected for 2 or more days will receive a selection of foils as a thank you from the Judge Program. Judges on staff may exchange 36 boosters for $100 in Pastimes.net store credit, to be used on-site or online.

For this event there will only be "Full Sponsorship" - which includes product compensation and the compensation detailed below.

In addition to your product compensation you will receive the following daily cash allowance towards your expenses: 

• L1 Judges will receive $70 per day

• L2 Judges will receive $80 per day

• L3+ Judges will receive $90 per day

Judges will have to complete appropriate tax forms on site before receiving payment.

Certification testing

We will be offering L1 and L2 certification. If you are an L1 and interested in testing for L2 at this event make sure to include the following information in your application:

• How long you have been a L1 judge?

• Who tested you and at what event?

• What events you have worked? (It does not need to be complete, just a few for examples)

• Some other judges you have worked with.

• The score and exam ID of a L2 Practice Exam with a passing score.
