Face to Face Games Presents Canadian Nationals 2018

FacetoFaceGames.com is proud to host Canadian Nationals; a mixed format event over three days, June 29th, 30th, and July 1st. The head judge for this event is Jon Goud.

Event Overview

The main event will consist of a mix of Standard and Draft on both Saturday and Sunday, with last chance qualifiers and trials on the Friday.

In addition to the main event we are providing a full weekend of Magic with a FacetoFaceGames.com Open+ on the Sunday, and PPTQ events on both days. We will also be running commander pods, drafts, and other awesome events.

This event is being held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, in the heart of downtown Toronto.

Application Information

We are committed to an amazing, fun, and welcoming experience for everyone at Canadian Nationals. We are looking for a great team to help us achieve that goal.  All staff at this event should expect to be working at competitive REL and applying the IPG and engaging with regular REL public events, all while being friendly, and customer service focused. All judges are expected to have standard judge uniform while on shift including an official judge shirt, black pants or long skirt, black (comfortable) shoes, and a black belt. Judges staffed on Sunday evening will be expected to assist with light teardown tasks.

Lead Judges

We are looking for experienced judges to take leadership positions and guide our event. Lead positions are available for one, two, or three days. Lead judges are expected to participate in some communication and planning in advance of the event, arrive with a plan to lead their fellow judges in accomplishing the day’s task, and set an example with their conduct, expertise, and skill sharing.

Floor Judges

We are looking for floor judges to ensure everyone at Nationals has a great time, feels welcomed, and is confident in the integrity of the events from the first slip to the last. Floor judge positions are available for two days, three days, or one day when combined with a lead role.

Stage Staff

We are interested in stage staff for event registration and prize wall. These positions are only for three days. Stage staff will be handling rapid fire interactions with customers, staying positive, and proactively bringing issues to our event leads as necessary.

Setup and Teardown

The Friday setup crew arrive early on Friday. Tasks include lifting, moving, and setting up equipment, stations, banners, and other materials. The Friday crew will also be assisting with product preparation for the weekend. The shift is from 7:30am until product preparation is done. The Friday crew will not be judging on Friday, and are encouraged to bring comfortable clothes.

The Sunday teardown crew will arrive Sunday afternoon and assist with packing up the venue. Tasks include lifting, moving, and packing up equipment, stations, banners, and other materials. The shift is from 4:00pm until the venue is completely packed, likely around midnight. The Sunday crew will not be judging on Sunday, and are encouraged to bring comfortable clothes.

Compensation

All compensation will be in the form of a cheque. Staff can pick up their cheque any time on the final day of their shift.

Lead staff will receive $350 CAD per day. Lead staff are also eligible for a travel sponsorship of $100, $200, or $300 based on need and distance travelled.

Floor judges will receive $200 per day .

Setup and teardown will receive $200 per day.

Stage staff will be compensated based on experience and position.

Standby

We are also looking for standby judges for Saturday and Sunday. If you wish to apply to be a standby judge, please select the appropriate box in your application. Judges staffed as standby will be able to play in the main event or a side event of choice for free if they are not needed to judge. If attendance exceeds our expectations, or other judges are unable to attend, the standby judges will be activated to staff and will be compensated as a floor judge. If you wish to play in the Nationals event as a standby judge, you must still meet the minimum Planeswalker Point requirement for the event.
