Event Information
Hello Judges, this is the solicitation for the upcoming Mega Modern hosted by Axion Now in Milton Keynes on Monday the 28th of May. As usual this is going to be a very large and very exciting event the winner of which will get flights, accomodation and GP entry to the GP of their choice! We will also have side events running throughout the day including Axion's premium chaos drafts.
As always Axion are looking for judges willing to go above and beyond to provide a great experience for players. We welcome applications from judges of all levels and ranges of experience and even have some new roles we are looking for judges for at this event with no level requirement!
If yu have any queries about this event at any time before the day itself then please don't hesitate to contact me on Facebook (Imogen Tilley) or by email (imogentilley@gmail.com).
Please note that the Head Judge of this event will be selected early so if you are interested in this opportunity then you will need to get your appliction in sharpish! This is in part because I will likely not be present at this event and so the HJ will take a bigger role in staffing this event and caring for the staff on the day.
Head Judge Selection will be published on April 13th.
Judge Selection will be published on April 27th to give plenty of time for travel and accomodation arrangements to be made!
SCHEDULE
The report time will be 9.15am for floor judges and 8.30am for the Head Judge and Scorekeeper, with the judge meeting starting promptly at 9.30am.
On average we tend to get the swiss all wrapped up by 9pm when most judges will be released. The top 8 shift will be with us for as long as they are needed into the top 8. Please do investigate your travel options BEFORE you apply, this event is on a BANK HOLIDAY and that will impact public transport options. If you find that your transport options would mean you needing to leave a bit earlier that is fine but this needs to be made clear in your application.
ROLES AVAILABLE + COMPENSATION
You are welcome to apply for as many roles as you are interested in. Please be aware that some key roles may be assigned before the application deadline, so if you're really keen to do something specific get your application in early. We would also like to ensure that judges have a reasonable level of format knowledge coming into this event so please be aware of that expectation when applying.
Base compensation will be 1 box of Dominaria per judge and a lunch stipend, some roles have an increased base compensation rate that is listed below. Judges also will have the choice to apply for the Top 8 shift, judges on the top 8 shift will recieve an additional dinner stipend and longer lunch break. The compensation bonus will be activated if we reach ~226 players whereby each activated judge will recieve an additional box of Dominaria!
Head Judge (Experienced L2+) - 2 Boxes
The Head Judge role will not only involve duties on the day but also will require some prior planning and co-ordination to assign team lead roles and assure smooth running on the day.
Score Keeper (100+ player event SK experience required) - 2 Boxes
Team Leads
The events will have team leads assigned to co-ordinate other judges in ensuring the completion of various tournament tasks. Each event will have a Papers, Deck Checks and End of Round team lead at a minimum and may have others chosen by the Head Judge.
Side Events Manager (Level 2+)
During the day we will be running On Demand Events as well as a Modern Rebound and other small events TBD. The Side events manager will be in charge of starting these events, co-ordinating round turn-arounds with the Scorekeeper and liasing with the Main Event HJ about borrowing additional judges if necessary.
Special Circumstances Co-ordinator (Anyone!)
For this new role we are looking for a judge with good empathy and understanding of the different requirements some players have. It will be part of this role to help with the welcoming of players with special circumstances, the set up of their playspace and co-ordination of this with the scorekeeper and Head Judge and then it will also be their job to check in with these players at the beginning or end of each round to ensure that their needs are still being met and that athey are having a great time.
Axion Representative (Anyone!)
This role in one for a judge with great customer service skills, they will be involed in helping with player questions and concerns at the beginning of the day and then they will be in charge of delivering goodies to the Axion Now table at the beginning of each round. We're looking for someone with a positive attitude who will not only be able to be calm and helpful to players with enquiries but also be able to bring a smile to the faces of players in the bottom half of the standings when they're seated at the Axion Now table.
Standby
Standby judges will receive the usual compensation rate if activated, activation points for standby judges will be released shortly after the staffing is published. Standbys not activated will have the choice of either free main event entry for the day they are standby for or side event entry/ies of equivilant value.
The are also alternative compensation options available to Head Judges and Scorekeepers, message Imogen on facebook or email imogentilley@gmail.com for further details.

If you have any additional questions or queries about this event of the judge selection process, don't hesitate to contact me either on Facebook (Imogen Tilley) or by email at imogentilley@gmail.com. Please contact me directly rather than sending queries to Liz or Francois as otherwise they can get stuck in the pipes and monsters live in the pipes and really like to eat judge queries.
