Event Information

CFB Events in cooperation with BIGMAGIC is excited to invite you to join an amazing community of people who will create some tremendously fun Magic: the Gathering experiences for guests of Grand Prix Chiba on July, 20th - 22nd 2018.

This application will allow you to apply to be a Judge, or Judge Lead

Please be sure to read the entire application carefully before applying.

The application window will close at 11:59 PM (23:59) PST on Friday, April 20th, 2018

In an effort to create opportunities for as many people as possible,

we are offering two day positions of Saturday/Sunday in addition to three day positions. Please select only those groups of days for which you are available to work.

Please note that you may apply for multiple roles, and may have more than one role over the course of the weekend.  If you are selected as a judge, you may be asked to take on operations tasks if needed.

All staff are required to speak Japanese or English.

Please be aware that most players, as well as some judges will not speak English.

We consider a Japanese speaking judge to be one that can handle an interaction in Japanese between Japanese speaking players in the feature match area.

JUDGES

If selected for a judging role, you may be asked to do any of the following:

Work on one of the Main Event Teams (pairings, slips, floor management, deck checks, end of round, etc.)

        Judge Scheduled Side Events

        Judge On Demand Events

If selected for a lead role, you will lead a group of judges performing the roles outlined above. Judges will be accepted for lead positions by day. When applying for a lead position, please make sure to indicate the minimum number of days you require being in a lead position with lead compensation. In most cases, applicants accepted in a lead role for one or two days will be offered a non-lead role for the remaining days of the event.

Judges working towards their Day Two Team Lead certification will not be paid the lead rate.

The judge assigned to supervise and assess the candidate for the Day Two Team Lead certification will receive the lead rate.

The typical shift length is 9.5 hours with a one hour lunch break and at least two fifteen minute breaks. Please note that leads on the main event are expected to work until the end of swiss rounds on Day One and through the end of the Top 8 on Day Two.

If you are selected for this event, you are responsible for monitoring the event forum for important news prior to and during the event.

Compensation depends on your role and sponsorship.

BIGMAGIC is able to buy back up to six (6) boxes of product from each individual staff member for 7,000 JPY per box.

All Product will be in the form of Japanese booster boxes from the most recent standard set.

Welcome from BIGMAGIC:

I am Hidetoshi Ito, event manager for BIGMAGIC, and I will be managing the staff at Grand Prix Chiba 2018.

We all appreciate your help with GP Chiba 2018 and we want to raise the bar for this Grand Prix, so please help BIGMAGIC and CFB Events to achieve this goal.

Our Main Goals are;

1. PROVIDE smooth tournament flow

Grand Prix are larger than ever in Japan:

Shizuoka 2016 - 2700 players (Cap 2700)

Nagoya 2016 - 2650 players (Cap 2700)

Tokyo 2016 - 3300 players (Cap 3300)

Kyoto 2017 - 2500 players (Cap 2500)
Kyoto 2018 -2270 players(Cap 2270)

Please keep in mind that almost all venues in Japan must close earlier than venues in other countries; therefore and in order to finish up the event as smooth as possible, please prepare for your role at the event ahead of time

(read the factsheet, look through the venue map, etc.)

2. CONNECT Japan and the World

There are many great GP attributes Worldwide and there are many exclusive to Japan. Our goal is to take the best attributes from both sides and make the whole Grand Prix experience even better.

BIG MAGIC
