Thank you for your interest in joining us at ChannelFireball.com's PTQ Weekend in Santa Clara, CA. Below, you will find all the information you'll need to be a judge at our event. EVENT INFORMATION
Saturday 10K Standard PTQ Head Judge: Alexei Gousev
Sunday 5K Modern Challenge Head Judge: Nick Rutkowski
Rules Enforcement Level: Competitive
TRAVEL
We will not provide travel or hotel sponsorship for floor judges at this event.
EXPECTATIONS
Judges are expected to prepare for each event by reviewing the Comprehensive Rules, Magic Tournament Rules, Infraction Procedure Guide, and Judging at Regular REL documents. These documents can be found at the Magic Judges Document Center. As representatives of ChannelFireball.com and the Magic Judge Program, judges are expected to behave in a professional manner at all times. This includes arriving on time, and in appropriate attire.
Judges are expected to arrive no later than 9:00 am and are expected to stay until the conclusion of the Swiss rounds. If you anticipate being unable to arrive by 9:00 am or needing to leave before 8:00 pm please include that information in your application.
Judges at the this event are expected to wear a judge shirt. If you do not have a judge shirt please indicate that and what size you need in your application. We will try to aquire one that you can borrow, which is expected to be returned at the conclusion of the event. The Judge should also arrive with black pants, black belt, and black, comfortable shoes. During breaks, or any other time that a judge is off duty, judges should remove or cover their Judge shirt.
TESTING
Magic Judge Program testing for Level 1 and 2 is available at this event.
Anyone wishing to test for Level 1 must meet the following criteria:
- Complete the pre-test requirements listed at the Judge Wiki
- Apply to be on staff as a candidate
Judges wishing to test for Level 2 must meet the following criteria:
- Complete the pre-test requirements listed at the Judge Wiki.
- Take a Level 2 Practice Exam and e-mail the exam ID and score to jessdunks@channelfireball.com.
COMPENSATION
Certified judges at this event will receive two Compensation Units (CUs) per day. Each CU can be redeemed for one of the following:
- $75 (Requires a completed United States tax form)
- $100 in ChannelFireball.com store credit
Uncertified Judges that are staffed as candidates for the event will receive one Compensation Unit per day. If someone staffed as a candidate certifies before the event, he or she may choose to withdraw, or remain on staff in a candidate position.

If your judge level is not currently correct on JudgeApps when you apply please mention this in your application.
Due to staff needs, some judges may be accepted for Saturday only. If you need to be on staff for both days in order to attend this event, please mention this in your application.
The application window for this event will close at 11:59 PM Pacific time on 02/15/2014. Judges wishing to apply for this event after the application window has closed will need to contact us at events@channelfireball.com.
Please note that late applications will be considered at a lower priority than those received during the official application window.
