With changes occured, a limited top 8 PPTQ can be played with scelled pool. During the semi final, time is called, the game 2 have finished during extra turns. Well, game 3 is the decisive game so the players will be affected by sudden death.

How much time do the players have to sideboarding into ( probably) a totaly new deck?
I mean, how to handle the fact players would like to play with a deck they have no build yet?

Do you have some advises to avoid frustration and keep the tournament integrity safe? There's here a time limit?

My point is how to define “ reasonable time” here ?

Thanks.

The top 8 is untimed…

Current MTR suggests semifinals as 90 minutes, so sudden death may be a thing.

Is this something that happened? It feels a little corner-casey to me, so it feels a bit like asking “How do we define reasonable in an unreasonable situation?” But the world is a big place.

We assume it's not the final and we had to fix a time limit for the quarters and the semi finals

Actually i had to handle this situation two weeks ago. I was disappointed.

For the record, players made 9 minutes to sideboarding. I have no idea if it's a good thing. At least, they could play with the deck of their choice.

The MTR states that “Magic Premier Tournaments may have different time limits. These time limits can be found in the tournament or tournament series fact sheet”.

PPTQs are Premier tournaments and their fact sheets state that the single elimination rounds have no time limit.

Yes, for PPTQs, the entire Top 8 is untimed, so if this situation occurred
at a PPTQ, then policy was not being followed. However…

Ok, so to change the scenario, you could assume that this *wasn't* a PPTQ
and just some other tournament where there was a single-elimination portion
that chose to be timed.
(My suggestion would be to avoid running those types of events, but that's
just my opinion)

The 3 minute sideboarding limit wasn't removed so players can take
longer. I'd let them know that trying to completely rework their deck
is going to take too long, but they do have enough time to put in all
the cheap things in their current colours and remove their top end. It
might sound like strategic advice, but they've already figured that
out if they are attempting to radically sideboard for sudden death.

I would still be tempted to give anything past 3 minutes a slow play warning.

It's not our call to decide if players have figured out something or not. So I definitely would not tell them how they should sideboard.

I would however remind them that they must sideboard at a reasonable pace so that they don't fall foul of Slow Play warnings, even in Sudden Death.

Thinking further it's easy enough to highlight what they can't do and
let them fill in the blanks: “Guys you don't have enough time to build
a deck from scratch, sideboarding really only has time for changing
the current deck”

TE Slow Play is defined to be taking longer than reasonably required. What is reasonable in all the circumstances can and does vary, and trying to set a definitive time limit in advance is probably not useful. Sideboarding for a “first life change” game will reasonably take longer than normal sideboarding. Even if (in the extreme case) a player in a draft wants to sideboard to a Swiftwater Cliffs and 39 basic lands, and try to mulligan into it.
