Can Judges ignore CR 720.1 while doing backups?

Can Judges ignore CR 720.1 while doing backups?

Lets start with this line: There is no cheating involved. This is the conclusion of an investigation, with some good copjudges bad copjudges situations.
Also: requesting O'

Situation 1a: At a comp REL event a player uses the mana ability of Chromatic Sphere while casting a spell and notices after drawing that he doesnt have enough mana for the spell. The card is still facedown. Do we rewind the draw?

Situation 1b: At a comp REL event a player uses the mana ability of Chromatic Sphere while casting a spell and notices after drawing that he doesnt have enough mana for the spell. Do we rewind the draw?

Situation 2: At a comp REL event a player uses the mana ability of Selvala, Explorer Returned while casting a spell and notices after drawing that he doesnt have enough mana for the spell. Do we rewind the draws?

So, while doing a backup, do we judges ignore CR720.1 or are we rewinding those draws?

Can Judges ignore CR 720.1 while doing backups?

Short version: no, no, and no.

In all three examples, activating those mana abilities was legal, even though they were done during what turns out to be an illegal action. They aren't illegal, so they aren't rewound.

Problems can arise with activating Chromatic Sphere during casting of a spell, which is why (a) you don't get to look at the drawn card until you finish casting the spell, and (b) cards like Chromatic Star have a different template to prevent problems.

@JBM: Nope, it wasnt an April Fool's Joke. It was already 3:30 am on April 2nd.

@Scott: Thank you for your answer :) So we are sticking to that rule when doing backups as judges.
