Hi!
It happened today I managed somehow to set the number of rounds to 0 with no chance to change this setting later. Now I have tournament with 18 people where no matches/results can be entered/deleted/redone because it says “the tournament is over”.
Did anybody met the same problem?
I am pretty familiar with WER but I see no chance to repair it without conatcting WotC.

Either send the tournament to wizards or save as a xml file. Then open the xml file and change the number of rounds in the first xml-tag (event, attribute numberofrounds) and re-import it.

Before you attempt to modify the XML, make sure you have backup copies.

Also, be aware that those XML file formats are proprietary to, and copyrighted by, Wizards of the Coast. Public discussion of any details about those file formats is something I would discourage, without express written consent from Wizards.

I didn't know the XML formatting of WER files was proprietary. That's good to know, how would that affect publishing of programs that use that format? For example, I once wrote a program that took WER files as input and spit out ELO ratings for the players for use in a league?

Since it uses WER files, and therefore contains information about the file format, does that mean I couldn't publish that program?

Essentially, you're using someone else's IP for your own purposes. Add to that the fact that WER, it's interface, file formats, etc., are almost certainly covered under various copyrights, and you can probably come to the right conclusion. Granted, if you're not trying to profit, it might seem like it's “no harm, no foul” - but copyright lawyers rarely see it that way.

If you feel you have a utility that can make use of Wizards' IP for the benefit of all, then you might consider discussing a licensing arrangement with Wizards.
