I was wondering how one goes about creating a new topic related to an event that hasn't already been named. In this case, I was wanting to create a topic about transportation to Gen Con. It seems like you can only create new topics within pre-existing categories. Either that or I am just missing something.

Yes - you can create new topics only in pre-existing categories. There are definitely topics without a natural ‘home’ yet, and we're still figuring out how to organize everything, which will of course be a process we go through together.

As for figuring out rides to GenCon…
If you're on the judge staff for the event, hopefully you have access to a forum or judge email list of those on staff from the TO (I'm not sure how staffing was handled for that).
Alternatively, your regional group/list is probably your best bet.

(Regional forums are in the works, and will likely join us here soon - but in the meantime, stick to whatever regional list/group you have.)
